Recommendations for .obj file editor

Hello,

Looking for recommendations for a free application I can use to edit a wavefront .obj file.

Would like to select mesh used to define a surface, and be able to delete all the mesh for that surface.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Treebeard

Polygon group editor (or whatever they call it now) in DS will do that for you as well.

For a crude solution you could just use a text editor to delete the polygons listed under the group (s) you wish to remove. This would leave the model with unneeded vertices and material vertices, but the mesh would look as you wanted.

You can also do it with the Geometry editor tool in DS - select the material by clicking the + next to its name in the Tool Settings pane, right-click in the viewport>Geometry Visibility>Hide Selected Polygon(s), right click in the viewport>Geometry Editing>Delete Hidden Polygon(s), then export as OBJ.

Thank you all. I'll try the Geometry editor tool in DS following Richard's instructions first and see how that goes.
