Season Pass

I'm interested to know how many people are going to be opting into the season pass. While I admit it is a tempting offer, I think Daz chose a bad time to launch this new subscription service, which is basically what the season pass is. The idea of getting five figures plus their HD upgrades is great, I love that part, but are the figures going to be any good? That's the question and it has to be asked. After all, the last few new characters Daz has released have been a big yawn for me. Don't get me wrong, Daz occasionally puts out a great character. Freja was, for me, a really dynamic and interesting character. She was a muscled woman with small breasts which is very different from what most character creators put out. Not only was her modelling very interesting and unique, her skin was great as well. 

 

Compare and contrast Freja against this latest gender neutral character, I think the name is August. The modeling is somewhere between cartoon and real, and not at all interesting or different or unique in any way, and the skin is downright bad. Comically bad in my opinion. It honestly feels like the people at Daz thought a gender neutral character would be an easy sell so they baked up a cheap character with minimal effort and, pardon the expression, crapped it out. It just feels like pandering to me. There is nothing new or interesting about August. Freja on the other hand feels like there was a lot of love and attention to detail put into her modeling. Ditto characters like Tara 8. She's got a great face, very memorable. Very different. 

 

So I think I'll hold off on the season pass until I see what caliber of character we are going to be getting. Like I said before, I think this is really bad timing on the part of Daz studio. If they had come out with a season pass after a stellar character like Freja, I'd have forked over my hard earned chash and eagerly anticipated what new characters were coming down the pipeline. Coming on the heels of the modest improvement that was 8.1 and August, the completely uninspired publicity stunt.... No thanks. I'll wait and see.

 

How does everyone else feel about this new subscription model? I'm interested to know.

    I'm doubtful about it. We don't know exactly what we would be getting so its an expensive lucky dip. If I go fo it I might end up regretting paying that much  But if I don't buy it I might end up wishing I had bought it. I hate having to make decisions like this based on inadequate information on what I am buying.

    It is basically a gimmick, look at the last 5 characters released, would you pay that amount for them? I seriously doubt they are going to make it a grandious character which is not just slightly altered from the G8 mesh. Look at the last 2 free products released for PC if you have it. Would you pay that for them? It sounds like there is some big thing, but that is the catch. To make you think it is bigger than it is going to be. IS there any value in having an art contest that doesn't include the mass customer base? Any value of live tutorials, when at somepoint in the distant future it may be covered on a different platform. This appeals to the customer that wants it all now, and will put out cash blindly.

    Naaa... no thanks... it's kinda gimmicky and weirdly conceived, but I welcome it for those who may be interested and for the fact that I was running out of stuff to make jokes about besides NFT and constant Cloud Flair server based issues...

    I think they should've just revamped the Platinum Club. The current Platinum Club should've been the "basic one" and then the pricier ones would've worked as higher tiers. I don't really buy these "Core Characters" as new releases. I used to back when we got a bunch of bundles as freebies. I also don't care about render contests. They always seem to favor a specific look, which I personally dislike. Nothing about it makes it seem worthwhile.
