[SOLVED] Manually changing product icons in Smart Content?

This makes so little sense to me... sad

First: No updates on my part. Neither Daz or drivers (who have no relation to the product database anyway).

Lately everything I install via DIM (like I always did in the past for, literally, a thousand products) shows up with icons in Smart Content.

So... My question is:
How do you fix this? Can I manually select an icon to be used for the product in the Smart Content panel?

Any help is greatly appreciated...

The icon is simply a PNG with a file name that matches the product exactly. The exact path is found by opening "Edit Metadata". I think it's in the middle of the window that opens. I've successfully edited bad product pictures for legacy content this way.

    Perfect! Thank you so much!
I even retrieved the thumbnails in DIM for each product.
Why the hell is it broken now? No idea...

You say that you installed with DIM, always have. Did you maybe log in to your account from Studio?

Yes, I always install via DIM (not Rendo stuff, of course. Those I install manually and I look the content up in Content Manager).

    Standard process is:
    1. I log in DIM, install, wait a few minutes and open DAZ.
    2. Daz always logs in automatically for me. I don't even remember the last time I had to manually log in in the app.

The thing that's puzzling is how random this is.
It's a hit or miss thing... But lately it's happening in almost every asset.

If you install with DIM, and everything is good, you do not want to log in from Studio. Ever. You do not benefit in any way from using Connect (that is what you are enabling when you log in). Lately it has been messing with the product thumbnails, as the many threads discussing that problem will attest, which is unfortunate, since it is entirely avoidable if you are using DIM / DAZ Central to manage your content.

    Interesting.
But that looks like an error from Daz not exactly something I'm doing 'wrong'.

That said, I don't 'use' Connect. In fact I don't even know what it is for.
Daz logs in automatically. Always did as far as I noticed.

I presume that you're suggesting I hit the work offline button? Is that what enables Connect?
I did that and apparently nothing happened. I'm now logged off.
Still no icons in some products. Fairly recent one's too.

Yes, it is something wrong at DAZ's end, and has been going on for a while.

Connect is a way to download and install content from within Studio. It uses a different method and installs in a different place than DIM / DAZ Central, and will override anything previously installed with DIM / DAZ Central. Logging in from Studio enables Connect, and will do things behind your back, like trash product icons (not that it was intended to do so).

Simply logging out of Studio will not restore the missing thumbnails. Now that Connect has gotten a hold of something, you will have to clean it out and reinstall the metadata from DIM. See this thread for my version of how to fix it. There is at least one user who can confirm that it works.

The problem with that is ther are times that Studio just flat refuses to reconginze that something has been installed with DIM, no matter how many times it's uninstalled/reinstalled.  It will not get added to the database, no matter what.  When that happens, connect is the only option

I have installed 20,000 product packages, and I have had that happen maybe 5 or 6 times that I can remember. In each case it was either poorly packaged (wonky folder structure) or bad metadata. Each case required no small effort to clear up, but I figured it out. I have never used Connect, or ever logged in through Studio, for anything.

Quick guide on how I fixed it (see attached images):

    1. I believe this is only for people (like me) that use DIM.

    2. Remember to keep the 'Show Login Page' and 'Automatically Login With Remembered Credentials' preferences unchecked.
For some reason I think that everytime you, inadvertently, login with Daz you're back to square one with the missing icons.

    3. In the Re-Import Metadata option I only check the products that had missing icons.

Hope it works out for everyone having the same problem with the missing icons in the Smart Content Tab.
