Accurately translating Daz Iray Uber skin surface settings to C4D materials

March 2021 in Cinema 4D Discussion

Hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone has come up with a good "standard" for translating the settings used in Daz's Iray Uber skin surfaces to those used in C4D's materials system.  The fields and values aren't 1:1, and pretty much everything other than the assigned maps get lost when bridging over.

Curious if anyone has any tried and true practices for getting things like the SSS/translucency and glossiness that Daz skin does so well to be a match in C4D's "language."

That will depend on the renderer of your choice. I'm not sure if the default C4D renderer can handle skin materials well. I'd recommend Vray or Redshift for C4D. They have pretty good default skin shader. Octane is also good but you need to do a lot of work to get realistic results, and you'll need the extra textures that the bridge doesn't provide. Here's a tutorial on how to do it in Octane:

You can search on Youtube for tutorials on how to do skin in other renderers. But the most important thing is that you'll never get the exact same result in C4D or any other software compared to Daz. But you can get pretty close.
