Lol! I hope you get something nice. And no problem.
Sooo glad this thread is still here.. Got a new computer back in 2021.... Now needed a new C hard drive... They don't make things like they used to... But I'm back to metadating items and installing files that weren't in the Manifest folder.. ughh.. Solved the PostReg error... again... (I think)... lol. Soon I will be back to rendering art... I sure have missed it.
Hope everyone is well..
Llola hugzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Hi gang... I have my new hard drive installed.. It is taking a while do get metadata to download... There HAS to be an easier way. I have over 20,000 items in my InstallManager... and about 4,000 things didn't have manifest data :( I am reinstalling them but.. it's been a week and I still have about 2,000 things to go! What's holding stuff up is all the RETRYs I am getting. Gotta close IM and then wait for it all to reload.. then try again... I've got it installing 12hours a day! I give the computer a rest at night... I also tried REIMPORT Metadata IN Daz.. and had it running for over 12hours and it was only 5percent done! WHAT am I missing??? Not sure anyone is watching this thread anymore (sighs)...
It could be a very quick interruption between Daz servers or your ISP. What is your download speed in DIM atm? ATM mine is 184 mb/s. Is see in the screenshot it's only 17.4 mb/s which is why it is taking really long to install. Can you try again? Also, what is your internet speed you pay for through your ISP?
Hi Frank.. thanks for reply... I have no idea what my internet speed I pay for through ISP (how do I check?)... I've restarted DIM several times.. right now I'm getting 26.6mb/s. Seems like I'm stuck waiting? Not sure if there's a way to have DIM download faster?
ok. did a speed test twice for my internet.. I guess mine is waaaaaaay slower than yours Frank (sighs)... And it is NOT cheap what we pay per month :(
We pay about $130 a month for ours, not including the modem, router, fiber optics and wireless pods. You should be able to go to ISPs site and look up your plan. Do you a limit that you can't go over before they down throttle you? Here is my speed test.
I will have to check with ISP later this week... As far as I know it's SUPPOSED to be unlimited. ughh... I'm so dumb when it comes to stuff like this. Maybe it's the wireless??? I don't know. I'll see if I can find out. In the meantime I'm still trying to get Daz sorted... but it's a long process... I really like having metadata... TRYING to figure out where stuff is in my runtime is so complicated. Each PA uses their own naming system.. Nothing is as I EXPECT it to be. :( Gonna be slow going doing any rendering for me. (sighs) Thanks Frank ... not sure what else to do. :(
A wireless connection very well can contribute to the issue. I'm using a good old-fashioned RG45 Ethernet cable so we can download and upload new products here quickly, and it not take a half hour like the old days. I would never use wireless unless I had to. I would expect much lower speeds and interruptions, as they are common with wireless. If we had a big product which a lot of our broker releases are, we would say heck with it and upload it to our site and give QA a link to it.
THIS is what I'm running into Frank... Pepper is an example... DM shows she IS installed... But when I go to Daz and look at the install pane it shows she's not... but I can manually find her if I look for her in content and she does open up. I am lost! The content IS on my drive.. just not showing up in the Install pane as there!
My wireless is an Arris Surfboard SBG10.. it says I'm supposed to get 72mps upload and download... I got it about 5 years ago. It is in the livingroom and my computer is in the familyroom... we don't have a cable long enough to reach. I my have to just bring my hard drive to the livingroom to upload stuff...but I'm trying to avoid that cause the content IS on my external drive. I have the programs going to my new internal C drive but the content goes to external D drive. I'm sure I have DIM set up the right way... but I'm missing something cause DIM is not finding the content on D. I have not found any documentation to say HOW to set things up so I'm winging it. Last time I had to do all this was 4 years ago and I had a younger brain back then. I don't do this that often so I've forgotten HOW i got Daz to work right. My D drive which hall all my daz is almost full... 4tbs of stuff.. so I need to purchase a bigger drive and I'll be going through this all over again. There HAS to be an easier way???
What ISP plan do you have? Most cable or fiber optics plans provide at least 300 megabytes per second or more. If you are paying for that and not getting it you may have to contact your ISP.
ETA: I looked your modem/router up on the internet and it looks like it should be cabable of handling up to about 400 mbps:

The image you posted shows that these products are ready to be installed with Connect (which is seperate from DIM). If you installed them from there you would have installed it in 2 different locations.
If the character work just ignore these "ready for download" inside Daz Studio.
If you only use DIM (and not are Premier) you do not have to log into Daz Studio.
ok... hubby and I did some chatting... going without a wireless is NOT an option for us.... We have to keep the wireless (for cellphone usage and hubby's computer in the far bedroom (I also plan on doing a speed test with his laptop to see what reading we get for him))... So... We are going to try and move the desktop closer to the wireless to see if speeds improve... if so we know it's the wireless and distance. We have spectrum cable in Ohio.
Ok.. I get that.. but... When I click on SMART CONTENT tab... and try and look for an outfit for a character (see screenshot below... you can see most of the content is gray except for the swimsuit I had to wait to download) Most of the content is grayed out... I have to wait for it to install to use it... From what I understand that is the re_import Metadata option... Which I tried.... Let it run for over 12 hours and it was only 5percent done :( This is turning into a nightmare for me to use DAZ... :( It's a shame cause I used to render something EVERY day... Now I'm so discouraged I don't even wanna buy anything new. My 4tb hard drive is almost full.. I want to get a bigger drive ... BUT... I don't wanna have to go through these headaches all over again. (sighs...) Looks like my Daz days are coming to an end. :(
Does the content load if you go to the Content Library and look under Daz Studio formats?
Yes... Everything is there on my D drive... but I have to look for where stuff is manually ... it's a nightmare trying to figure out where PAs put stuff and WHAT they called it. They really need to name stuff what it is when you buy it.
Happy update everyone... I ran the reinstall metadata command again for about 3 more hours (for a total of about 15hours) and it's finally finding metadata for my characters. I still have about 2000 more items to install with Dim (sighs)... NOT looking forward to having to do this all over again for new bigger hard drive :(.
I'm wondering if I name my new drive D... maybe Daz will find it and I won't have to go through all this again???
Also.. question... I had my screen layout saved many times before I got the new drive but I can't find them.. Does anyone know WHERE they are saved? If I can find my old ones then I won't have to create all new quick tools on my menu bar (not sure what they are called... see attached file) at the top of my screen again.
%appdata%/daz 3d/studio4/user layouts/
Thanks Richard... Looking now. :)
Any ideas about saving my stuff over to new hard drive using the same letter D drive???
Bummer... no luck finding old layouts :( They must be on the old C drive. I will have to find an adaptor to see if I can find them on it to save over. (sighs)... Thanks
%appdata% expands to driveletter:/users/you/appdata/roaming/ if you are looking at the drive as a non-boot device
Sorry Richard I have NO idea what this means????
Had some time to troubleshoot today... I see I have a few problems with wireless...
1) I have a metal lamp near my wireless antennas on the computer.
2) There is a metal heating vent near the wireless antennas too.
4) There is a 5G setting on my computer that I didn't know that it was for internet... I switched over to that and my speeds went way down... 2mbs :(
5) With the new 5G setting and moving the computer away from these 2 things into the middle of the room... my speeds went waaay up. It's still not as good as you all are getting but 100mbs is better than 27. (see attachment with DIM) We brought hubbys laptop to the livingroom about 10 feet from the wireless and he got about 238mbs on the speed test. He was getting 220ish in his room. So distance DOES matter.
CONCLUSION... We are now looking at moving my desk closer to the wireless or purchasing a longer antenna that we can run across the ceiling closer to the wireless. Hubby tested with an old piece of long wire and the difference in speed was much better.
Oh.. and one more note.. TIME OF DAY makes a diffrence in speed also. Late at night when everyone in the neighborhood is asleep I get much faster speeds... and we live in the country! Who knew??? lol
When you type %appdata% in a path it is actually a stoed value, known as an environment variable, that has the path to your Roaming folder, where the setings get stored. If you hook up your old boot drive as a new external drive to get the old versions of the files you won't have that convenient substitution and will have to dig down to the files the hard way.
ok Richard... I THINK I get it... but I still need to buy an adapter for the old C drive. All I have now is the drive in no case. I'll check Amazon and order one. Thanks. :)
Just did some rechecking and some of the 1 star reviews say that this modem doesnot work with Spectrum. Also the title has been changed to say it doesnot work with Spectrum. Do you own the modem or does Spectrum provide it? If Spectrum is providing it you may need to contact them for a replacement. Spectrum has modem router combinations you can rent or they will provide a modem and you can purchase a seperate router.
Thanks Charlie.. that is true... we own our wireless... hubby doesn't want to rent any more equipment if he doesn't have to. We pay sooo much already.
Not sure if you saw my CONCLUSION above... We have ordered an antenna for my computer with a 6 foot cord so I can move it way from metal interference... I have the computer sort of in the middle of the room now and I'm getting good speeds downloading DIM.. Today it actually hit 238mbs! Just finished watching TV and I am mostly caught up with downloads... WOO HOOT... My manifest files seem to be all there too. When I load my characters now I'm getting metadata correctly... Still sorting out my favorites... etc... I could not find my old LAYOUTS... but... I've also ordered a case for the old C ssd drive and hopefully I'll be able to grab a few files before it dies completely. I've also ordered a 26tb external hard drive... I plan on putting ALL my files on the new drive... I have about 10 external drives of various sizes with stuff scattered all over them. This will let me get everything sorted on 1 drive. I love organizing! So... slowly getting back to normal with Daz here and I'll be back to rendering in no time (fingers crossed)
Thank you ALL for your support with trying to help me sort this all out. Hopefully it will be a while before anything else goes on my computer... lol
Stay well one and all... Llola huggiezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
