I couldn't resist this one. Am I the only one who has a mailbox that refuses to stay closed? And always at the WORST time.

Hi all! We broke Florida record for ALL TIME for the most daily snowfall. We got 8.88" of snow. I'll share some of the photos.

OMG! That is wild! Do you even own a show shovel?

Believe it or not, I DO. We kept the huge snow shovel from when my hubby moved to Connecticut for a job, and I stayed here in Pensacola because Mom was here. We use it for scooping up leaves after we rake them in a pile. It really works!  How cold is where you are? My sister is in Jacksonville and freezing rain/ yukky stuff.

The dogs look happy. It's 28 here in Harlingen, TX, had drizzle most of the day but it stopped before sun down

55 degrees here now. We have a snow shovel, too and use it for exactly the same thing - oak leaf piles in the spring!

@robertfreise  @barbult  Kinda wish you could have experienced this- it was beautiful. Just not enjoying the icy cold. I just went to feed Shadow (the stray cat I've fed/sheltered in a heated tent for over 15 years) and he is NOT in his shelter. It is low 20's and it is SO frustrating for him to LEAVE a perfectly good shelter. I even put kitty litter on the front porch so he wouldn't have to go far to potty. (It's away from his shelter.)  So just not going to worry about it, the other wee hours he came back and got in at about 3am- but it was much warmer.

I just read There might be up to 5.1" of snow in a band from Mobile, AL to Destin, FL, be careful. I have to go 100 miles to Lexington today but the roads are salted here pretty well. I even salted my driveway as it's steep and I can't drive back up it when their is snow and ice on it.

Okay! Now, to remember your Colorado times, go swimming in that pool.

And I must apologize, that storm you got, well it was ours that gained juice on its way to you. We are expecting some more later this week on top of the frozen snow that is left.

The pups look like they are a tad bewildered. Guess they need to grow-up in a climate to know what to do.

My Lhasa Apso puppy Beowulf knew his first winter in England, he slid down the three-tiered waterfall in our front garden that was iced over and crashed through the lower one. Got slimed. I had to carry him upstairs and give him a bath. Sean just broke a box down, went sledding with neighbors on the moat at Framlingham Castle.

I hope your pipes are okay and remember to watch out when the temps start to rise for breaks and leaks.

@memcneil70  I love that name Beowulf! Got the outdoor faucets totally wrapped, left the indoor cabinets open (many folks forget about that. It helps keep pipes warm, but I can't imagine that warmth goes very far.)  It's fun today to see the loquat tree snow dropping large chunks of melting snow into the pool. It makes little tidal waves like when the glaciers drop part of their ice. We have a lot of shade so some of this will still be here in a few days, when my son visits from Oklahoma. Both sons will be here at the same time, so we're going to enjoy all being together for over a year. Thank goodness this didn't hit when he was flying in!

That is wonderful news about the boys. It is hard when they growup.

Also, if your trees have built up a lot of snow, remember to take a broom or something to them to shake them free. We have lost a number of tree branches around here due to snow when the trees have leaves and the branches couldn't hold the weight. And stand back! We were warned repeatedly to keep the breezeway doors closed, but each morning I would wake up and find someone had come home and opened the western door wide and the air was fridged. I would walk down, slam it shut, it took 3 days to get the message across. Couple years ago below us, there was a major water pipe break and four apartments had their floors and everything on them ruined. One apartment had just moved into a new home, so they were safe, but three families lost a lot of property and had to move so the apartments could be repaired, including walls.

Beowulf's name was due to us living near Sutton Hoo, just down the street actually when we moved into housing at RAF Woodbridge finally. He was a very fierce little dog. The neighbor's cat would collect him in the morning and take him for 'walkies' around the Knoll and return him to the front door. Framlingham was a magical place to live.

Yep, I grew up in Indiana and was stationed in Colorado for 4 years- although I was at an apartment complex there and didn't have to shake the trees!  Here we were lucky and had snow, no ice, and it was the medium density (not the heavy, moisture-laden kind.) My loquat tree branch dipped over the pool but it was a very mature, thick branch so fortunately it did fine. Today was a big melt day, but we have a lot of shade in huge parts of the yard, so we're keeping our snow longer than most neighbors. It's interesting to see the pattern up and down the street! I'll keep you posted on our melt, the snow that melted from the roof was literally pouring off the house.

We had a little trough drop snow from Friday night to last night across upper Colorado and I woke this morning to 16F real feel 6F. The warnings went out yesterday for road/walking conditions of every bit of snow/ice/run-off would become ice slicks. Very glad I don't need to go out today.

Even if you don't buy, look at The Alchemist's interior set for the Notre Dame that was released today. I bought the exterior when it came out. The quality of the work is a joy to look at and a great appreciation to the artists who rebuilt the cathedral. I also appreciate the documentation that comes with the products.

    @memcneil70 That interior is stunning!

FANTASTIC!!!  So pleased you posted here.

So far as how I'm doing, haven't touched Daz in over a year, we bought a home in St Augustine last August and are updating/fixing up the Pensacola home to sell it. I'm still here, but going back and forth taking things to the new home. We did the "big move" Thursday (April 10th) with the large items (sofa, bed, consoles, etc) and TONS of plants. I refuse to leave my green friends behind, because that's 20 years here of growing/memories. So thought I'd ask a fun question-

What is one or two things you'd want to take with you from your house/neighborhood if you were moving somewhere else, that would make you smile/have fond memories? It doesn't have to be practical, aka at my mom's house in Pensacola, I'd want to take her gate and the large bamboo plant right next to it. I actually did a sketch of it, I liked it so much. On the other side were periwinkle flowers. I'd take those too LOL!

Not counting the must use as they are useful or documentation also plants of my mom's that she gave me from her yard: multiple azaleas, rhododendron, mountaiin laurel, daffodil, Home Run roses, Fairy roses, Apple Blossom roses, Christmas roses, lentin roses, Yellow Roses of Texas, holly, blueberry, creeping phlox, iris, and spirea would be all of it.

I forwarded the recommendation on to friends who mentioned tonight at dinner that they can't find jasmine locally.

Surprisingly enough, I found Walmart had really good plants- the ONLINE where they ship the plants. The Fast Growing Trees honeysuckle was (guessing) around 56.00 for two teeny stalks, then I found Walmart had it starting in late Feb this year for a THREE FOOT plant for 29.95. Got at least 12 vines (vs 2) and my first buds came out this weekend!   They were well packaged and no damage, so for years I've looked at the hard to find stuff and had it shipped IF the vendor had great ratings.

So tell them to check Walmart vendors, and the customer ratings will let you know if that vendor is good or not. (Not Walmart brand, they have separate vendors.)

That sounds beautiful! I'll have to look some of those up- Apple Blossom roses and Home Run roses are new to me.

Apple Blosom Roses are a 3' wide x 2' high carpet rose with white that turn deeper pink at the petals edges blossoms, but not much of a scent. Home Run Roses are like a thorny octapus, with 3' to 4' long arms eminating out of the center of the rose bush with single, not double, deep red flowers, but no deep rose smell either. The Home Run repeats better than the Apple Blossom rose.

It is the Fairy Rose that is the star though, again no scent to speak of, it is a polyantha rose type if you want another variety that is similar but with a different color rose flower, it blooms and repeat blooms with light pink double rose flowers starting in mid-spring through fall/winter frost. In St John's County, Fl I'm not sure of the bloom schedule or how it handles that sand soil. I've never maintained mine but you can't kill them in a normal lawn. They are extremely thorny though and would be a good hedge as they are about 3' round and 3' high covered in thorns. Wear heavy canvas gloves, shirt, and pants when tending to them and don't lean in too close, use your arm reach, as they will grab a hold of you and better think of that hooking canvas, than your skin. You used to before the pandemic get them for a crazy $4 a bareroot plant, but now the prices are insane! I saw one listed for $100. They are easy to root from cuttings, all roses are.
