Threadripper 3970X or 3960X as CPU in a GPU rendering machine?
Hi guys!
I'm going to buy a new PC to render with IRay. And have a little question because I'm not very sure about a detail.
I'm going to buy 2 RTX 3090 and 128GB memory and I wanted to buy a Threadripper 3970X. The whole thing has a high price, of course, but such a machine you finally buy to be satisfied with it in the long term. So I do not want to be stingy.
Now the shop doesn't have a Threadripper 3970X in stock and I don't know when he will get some again.
If I now take a Threadripper 3960X ... it will make a noticeable difference since I will be rendering with GPU after all?
I think I read somewhere that the CPU is especially important when creating images, and of course I want to have the best possible performance.
Should I wait until the 3970X is available again or does that play a minor role since I will be doing GPU rendering.
Can someone please give me some advice on this? Thanks a lot!

The only time daz will hang due to cpu is stuff that isn't multithreaded in my experience. I upgraded from a 4 core intel to a 6 core AMD and really don't see difference in much. Certain specialized tasks like compressing with 7zip, or compressing a huge PNG I see a little difference.
Yea it shouldnt be too much of a difference.. 24 cores instead of 32.. as you say, it's largely GPU(s) doing the the heavy lifting.
If the wait is negligible.. maybe hang on, but if you're talking months then go for it, though I'm surprised they have the GPU's in stock as well.
