Hair in Unity

January 2021 edited January 2021 in Unity Discussion

I saw some of the Unity Renders in the thread on this forum and I noticed that in many of them the hair looks much better than what I'm experiencing so far with my transfers to Unity. I'm using URP (at least for now). Are there any tips, or does it come down to using higher quality hair? My hair seems to look dry and brittle.

That is a very interesting topic for me, too.

I am using mostly HDRP and standard pipline in Unity.

I have no general solution about how to improve hair looking in Unity,

so I just experiment, using game view, and change shaders, materials and settings until the hair looks good.

Some hair does not look good at all in Unity, so I skip such item and experiment with another one.

I have tried URP in 2019.4.16, but Unity crashed after a while, so I was not encourage to make more experiments.

Now I have started to use Unity 2020.2.1 and I like it very much, especially with HDRP.

Ok, I have used Unity 2020.2.1f1 with URP pipeline and below is my result.

Have tried different versions of hair in URP and could not make it to look, like in Daz Studio.

Hair made by 3Dream and Mairy were always my favorites and Anemone Hair looks pretty good to me (it is on the left on Victoria 4.2).

Compare my result with the promo on https://www.daz3d.com/anemone-hair and you will see the difference.
