Help! Product and Categories have gone missing

I'm not sure what I've done.

I opened Daz Studio and in the Products directory in the Content Library files were missing for random letters of the alphabet. I reset the DB and reimported metadata which caused the Products and Category links to stop showing a sideways triangle next to them. I then reinstalled Daz Studio and now the Products and Categories are gone entirely.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

It sound like you CMS has stopped running.

In Windows, go to the Start Menu > All Programs > DAZ 3D, and start CMS from there, that may work.

Link to the help docs http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/software/dazcms_check, if that doesn't help you may need to go through a lot of other steps.

Thank-you. I tried what you said and something weird is going on here.

I checked the Task Manager with Daz Studio running and the content manager was there but it said "stopped". I closed Daz Studio and right clicked and clicked start but it told me access was denied.

So I went to Start-> Programs->DAZ3D->Content Management Service and selected Start Content Management Service. At this point, in Task manager is said running.

Then I restarted DAZ Studio, and in Task Manager is says stopped. It's like turning on Daz Studio turned off the Content Management Service.

    Any ideas what is wrong?

ETA: I tried launching DAZ Studio with the Task Manager running and as soon as the splash screen opened up for Daz Studio, the CMS stopped.

That looks like you database files have become corrupted, unfortunately an not uncommon problem with the Valentina/CMS setup.

    A few questions first.

Have you created your own Categories, and do you have a backup of them?
If not, you can delete the database files for Valentina, and DAZ Studio will recreate them the next time you start it. You will then need to reimport metadata from the drop-down menu in the Content Library pane.

The Valentina db files can be found here : C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\Content Management Service\databases and there are five of them to delete.

Once you get that fixed, it would be worthwhile upgrading to PostgreSQL which is available with the latest version of DAZ Studio, but try what I suggested first.

    More information;

When i checked the logs for DIM is says connected to 4.8

When i checked the logs for DAZ Studio there is no line for connected to, but I get a bunch of warnings like the following:

WARNING: dzvalentinaobjectdatabase.cpp(38): DB Insert error: "FILE: ..\..\sources\VKernel\Fbl\prot\Structure\VarChar\FBL_VarCharFile.cpp FUNCTION: fbl::VarCharFile::BinarySearch LINE: 497" Varchar data "" is corrupted.
DB Insert error: "FILE: ..\..\sources\VKernel\Fbl\prot\Structure\VarChar\FBL_VarCharFile.cpp FUNCTION: fbl::VarCharFile::BinarySearch LINE: 497" Varchar data "" is corrupted.

Would I be correct in assuming the PostgreSQL is gone and the Valentine dbase is corrupted? PostgreSQL is showing as installed in DIM.

The following line should appear in your DS Log File if PostgreSQL is running:

Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.3.4, compiled by Visual C++ build 1600, 64-bit

There are two files in the DIM that need to be installed, one installs the PostgreSQL files, and the other is for converting your original (Valentina) database file to work with PostgreSQL. Did you install both o them?

It looks like you are still running CMS/Valentina, so delete the DB files I mentioned in my last post, and see if that works. After that is running correctly, you can reinstall PostgreSQL and the conversion program will work.

    Thanks again for the help.

I went in to delete the databases as suggested but there are none showing.

    I only see :

DAZ 3D-> Daz Content Management Service
    Start Daz Content Management service
    Stop Daz Content Management service
    Uninstall Daz Content Management service

    We are at cross-purposes here.

You are not looking ion the correct place, these files are NOT in the Start > All Programs menu, they should be in

    C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\Content Management Service

where the DS program is installed to

    Ah, I understand.

I think I found the right location, but I don't know which are the 5 files to delete:

They are in a folder called 'databases' which you do not appear to have.

Four of them are ContentDB.blb, ContentDB.dat, ContentDB.vdb and ContentDB.ind, the other one is called master.vdb. You could try a search on Windows for them, to see if they are installed somewhere else.

In the beginning you didn't mention installing PostgreSQL, which should have replaced the Valentina/CMS if it was installed correctly. For some reason, your version of DAZ Studio is still trying to read for the Valentina files, so something must have gone wrong there..

I don't know why DS is looking for Valentina files, but you could try reimporting metadata from the Content Library drop-down menu.

The best course of action may be to uninstall CMS from Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D, then reinstall DAZ Studio, and also reinstall the PostgreSQL files from DIM (after uninstalling them first). The conversion one will probably not be needed, since you don't appear to have the old database files.

You cannot use Valentina/CMS AND PostgreSQL at the same time, it's one or the other.

The old Valentina database is in the ProgramData folder, which is hidden.

Mine were never in there at any time, maybe I decided to customise the CMS installation, but I never usually do so.

My db files are still there in Program Files although I now use PostgreSQL, and I ran the conversion program. They are no used now of course.

Well, I got everything back, thanks!

I took your suggestion and loaded PostgreSQL and that solved the problem after i reset the db and reimported the metadata. Big difference doing that after loading PostgreSQL than before.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I've been getting bad gateway errors all day.

Thanks again for all your help.

Well, I appreciate you both. I was experiencing similar problems with my database and by reading this thread...my problem is no more :-) Thanks !!!!!!

  • My Products and Categories went missing one day in my Daz Studio 4.8 setup. I came here for an answer but it turned out that my copy of WinPrivacy had blocked the CMS. So I had to tell it to "allow" and everything was fine again. So FYI, if the above solution doesn't help everyone, check your anti-spam and firewall software.
