Help Please "Smoothing Mod"

Hi all. I'm have a bit of a snag. When I adjust the Smoothing Modifier it adjusts the Smoothing Iterations and the Collision Iterations for the whole scene. I have a smoothing iteration of 1 on my genesis. But I need 6 on the hair. When I typed 6 on the hair. Now all the sudden my genesis has 6 as well. I can't seem to figure out how to stop it from doing that.

    Are you sure that only the hair was selected when you made the adjustment?
