Oh for 90$ and a tech savvy person to update my notebook to Win7 where I can simply stop a background process from running if it gets annoying rather than ending it..

If I were anywhere near you I would bail you out! Alas, I'm stuck here 3 more months...

Currently at 42,000 feet. We should be arriving at our destination in about three and a half hours. You may now unbuckle your safety harness and move freely about the cabin.

can yoo name this tv show?

    ...Benson.
Right character, wrong show. This is "Soap". "Benson" was a "spin-off".

ETA: Sorry, that came out a lot more "one-up" than I meant for it to be.

    It's hot!

Well, okay, it hasn't been 90 yet this week. But it's really hot for the Seattle area! It's like 84 outside! I'm huddled by the portable air conditioner, which is the size of R2D2 and louder than my computer fans, if you can imagine such a thing.

heh - you ought to model it (and a few other portable/window style)!!

not enough models out there for our everyday redneck renders!

... I think I still have my redneck planter and house-trailer somewhere... but really needs a window unit!... a few half-tires (painted white - flaking of course) for 'trim' on the planters or drive-way... a decent El Camino (with up on bricks / parted options), a beer-can (empties) mobile/wind-chime...

... you know; home furnishings! :cheese:

oh! And someone needs to do a decent 'mullet' hair style that either comes with or works with a baseball cap! (cap needs a curled bill - all the ones out there are far too straight for any self-respecting trailer-park resident or redneck)

A white T-Shirt with a "cigarette pack rolled up in the sleeve" morph!
Jeans with a Skoal (or Copenhaegen) morph/worn-spot on the hip pocket...

...here we've been experiencing 90°+ weather and the light rail system (that cost several billion to build to date) has to operate under restricted speeds (30 -35 mph) making it faster to take the bus. How did the contractor get away with such lousy workmanship considering the cost involved ? The TGV in the south of France doesn't have to slow down during hot weather there. Same for the LRT system in Phoenix AZ where it gets well above 100° most of the time.

Part of it is my dislike of the Content Manager... too much of my content isn't DAZ material, and needs to be easily organized for both Studio and Poser (just did the upgrade to PP14), to the extent that material is usable in both programs. And I never did like the 'official' category system. And part of it is the 'what happens if something goes wrong?' If I'm downloading and testing one item at a time, I KNOW where the problem is. If a bulk system is doing it, I might not figure out what went wrong, or even that something DID go wrong.

    DITTO!

the Official (much less 'default') sorting leaves... well... a couple of galaxies to be desired! I want something that - if I am not sure what I am looking for (I want Vicky in a skirt... WHICH one I am not sure) or for something in general but don't remember if I have a certain thing I want my library/Runtime organized where I will *still* find my content!!!

For example, with the 'skirt' - the way I have my library set up:

Figures (because I want a conforming)
-> People (I am looking for something a person would wear)
    --> Clothing (ah-ha! Yes, clothing)
---> V4 (since she is the streaker I am trying to clothe)
----> Skirts & Tops (because I am looking for a skirt, and most came with a top)
    ----->

(browse... browse...) hey! that one is what I am imagining!
** note, even if I forgot I had a product or not sure, I will still find it this way

now for textures - and I have the Pose (and working on Materials) set up the *EXACT* same order so I can go directly to it!

... defaults and 'officials' I have to SOMEHOW remember which vendor made skirts (yeah - right!) and browse ALL their folders + the DAZ folder + the few obscure product named folders to *hopefully* stumble across something that will work!

... oh, and let us not forget all the slightly misnamed variations!!! :grrr:

Oh, you want a TEXTURE for that?!?! ok, start the process over, because we didn't use the same naming convention in the other areas!!! (often not even close)

yeah, takes a while to set it up originally... and you have to manually install EVERYTHING - but it saves soooooooooooo much time!

Now, if I could only find a program (or magically code it myself) that would go through my library, open the .cr2 / .pp2 / .duf / etc. files, find the required associated files (textures, geometry, etc.), and rebuild my support folders (textures, geometries, etc.) in the same order, then save the original file with the updated locations, I would be soooo happy! No, not ocd - I want the system to run faster, and having umpteen THOUSAND folders in the same folder is 'pouring sugar in the gas tank'!! Yes, I know modern tech drives and OS's no longer crash when you do that - that doesn't mean that they run well just because they don't die immediately!

...the only issue with reinstalling/renaming things to categorise them better is that any scenes still in progress will end up with broken path errors when you open them.

Of course, when the hard drive you had everything on falls on the floor, it makes for an excellent opportunity to reorganize... since your scene files are gone anyway. With the New PosterSQL Database, the Export User Data to file (small folder and easy to copy for back up), and starting early and staying at it so you do not get behind this is the PERFECT Job for Categories in DAZ Studio...

    Under V4 Deeper is...
    >Clothing
    >Sci-Fi
    >Fantasy
    >Modern
    >Period
And I can add as many folders as I want and put any content I want in each Category. I have not lost my Database from the time I installed the PosterSQL CMS and I do Export USER Data after I update each new set of content. I'll not claim to have it All done but I rarely have a full set viewed before I got to category level, meaning most of the content still shows as a NEW install (set blue in the content view) so I can find it all and place it where I wont it.

Your PC was doing a Check Disk on your Main drive. Those are normally scheduled tasks. If your OS just runs one out of the blue you probably never set it to a Schedule, which you should, about once a month or two should be fine. Also set one for any other normal HD's you have. Never run Check Disk on a SSD drive though. They totally different than Mech HD's.

And none of that really helps when you lose the main and backup drives in a couple-day span. I was down to the emergency reserve backup, which had been in storage for a while. All scene files, data files, etc. out of date. And, once more, any Studio-oriented system is going to mean Jack when I switch to Poser for its toolset. So I'll stick with a hand-constructed, no-automation system that puts things where I can find them in either program.

Was just trying to help, I had no idea before now you planned to go fully Poser. The DS method so gonna help zero with that.
