Temp file

July 2020 in 3ds Max Discussion

So I was able to successfully install all four bridges and then ran into a new problem.  When I use the bridge in DAZ, the information is being sent to a temp file SOMEWHERE on my computer.  I go into 3DS max and try to bring it in via DAZtoMax, but 3DS is pulling from a different file.  How can you trace which folder the information from Daz is going, where Max is pulling it and how can you re-direct so the bridge is finally speaking between the different programs?

Check the folder listed in Edit>Preferences (Daz Studio>Preferences for a Mac).

Oooh!  How about on the 3DS Max side?

I'm not familiar with 3D Studio Max (or Cinema 4D, about which you are asking the same question).

    Hi adman_gragg,

the script history which is more easily viewed in the system log says that the file is exported as fbx to C:\TEMP3D\DazToC4D.fbx

Just open from there in Cinema4D and save as a cinema4D file as you like. I suppose it would be good if it opned cinema4D but there are benefits in this method too.

    Hope that helps.

PS. First time I tried the bridge and it seems to work hunky dorey and better than the old FBX export. I will play round with figure later and see how it pans out.

3dMax has import / export folders .. where it looks first

    ----
I have enough going back betweed 3dm and daz (objects) that I just have a top level folder on the daz drive labeled 3dmax and save to there and look in there

So it uses maxscript and FBX format I gather?

Max 2021 now supports Python, hopefully one could automate teh whole process.

For years now I've been doing the whole process manually - this has greast potential maybe.

There is also a script within Cinema4D which will open the file automatically without having to go to the temporary folder to locate file and import as an FBX. I lean't about this when I reinstalled Central and my previous problems seemed to have been ironed out there as well.

    Good to know!

The FBX file is being placed in your root drive in the folder TEMP3D on my system that's C:\TEMP3D

After export from DAZ you will have a file DazToMax.fbx and DazToMax.xml
