July 2020 in 3ds Max Discussion

The most versatile 3D Library just got a whole lot bigger.

Daz 3D is here to help you make amazing 3D artwork. That’s why Daz is excited to announce the Daz to 3ds Max Bridge and native 3ds Max File Formats! To continue to make morphable, mashable, and photo-realistic 3D models even more available for digital artists, we’ve developed two new ways to take your 3D content with you, wherever you work.

Daz Bridges

The new Daz to 3ds Max Bridge is ready to transfer your Daz Library into 3ds Max. This cross-platform port fully converts the rigging, textures, and character functionality that you expect from Daz to get your 3D arsenal ready for an exciting new adventure.

How it works

Daz handled the complicated stuff like rigging, polygons, and textures. Daz Bridges do all the hard work so all you need to do is:

  • Download

    • Download Studio for free, and get automatic access to Daz Bridge to 3ds Max (also free!).

  • Build

    • Explore over 30,000 items to find your perfect product. Then use Studio’s built-in sliders, morphs, smart content and auto-fit to make your perfect character & scene.

  • Transfer

    • Once your character or scene is ready to go, open your Daz Bridge and import your project to your 3D software simply, quickly and easily.

  • Finalize

    • Put in the finishing touches - pose, animate, render!

File Formats

Daz is also announcing File Formats, a new effort to share sensational 3D characters, props, poses and environments with the entire 3D art community! File Formats unlock a brand new world of 3ds Max content for you to explore.

3D Artists prefer Daz because we offer content like you’ve never seen, with built-in functionality that takes your 3D art to the next level.  What can you build with the most versatile 3D Library?

It is confusing that the store product page does not show Daz Studio as one of the File Formats available. Are these products no longer offered in DUF format, but only in formats for other programs? The page still says compatible with Daz Studio 4.12, but does not list any Daz Studio file format. What's up?

When I export, I see all my installed (unused in the scene) morphs and expressions scrolling in the export pop-up window. And it takes so forever that I just force closed DAZ (can't cancel the process...) after waiting 15 minutes. I have a very recent and pretty excellent rig, so... how come ?

Is the File Formats taken out? I can't find the product page or any videos about it at all. Also, the promo info about the bridges seems a little over-exaggerated as well. Maybe when the bridges can use this new native format that carries ALL the material channels to the host 3D programs, while maintaining vertex accurate, then they will be as powerful as the promo sounds.

Is this still being actively developed. It seems to have a few problems with allocating textures. You have to go through all the sub materials and reapply all the bitmaps seperately and then click the button to make them visible in viewports. Otherwise you end up with only a face texture and everything else black.

It's a good start. But there does seem to be quite a few problems in Max 2022 at least.

I discovered a bug with the materials when imported into max, max creates a multitile bitmap for the Base Color slot in a max Physical Material. You have to change them all (about a dozen) manually to general bitmaps and the textures show up correctly in viewports. For some reason the face currently works ok.

Really appreciate seeing this tool being developed for us Max users. I'm experiencing the same materials bug reported by tysoe_c1fec838 above and I'm having trouble figuring out how to manually change the slots as he describes. Any help on this would be greatly apprecaited.

Same here. This is very weird.

Is there supposed to be a plugin that needs to be installed into Max too? I have installed the Bridge in Daz, and have the Scripts drop down menu in Daz with Bridges and then Daz to 3DS Max, but I have nothing at the Max end, which leads to conclude that I must be missing the component that needs to be added to Max. Does anyone know, first what this component is, and do they have access to it, and if so where does it go in Max? Can anyone provide me with this?

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.
