I'll give you a little bit of general info that often gets overlooked. Gaming monitors are very different beasts from monitors designed specifically for content creation. The reason why is speed.
Gamers want monitors that have low input lag, and can run at high refresh rates. Input lag is the measure of time it takes for you hit a button to perform an action, and the action is shown on screen. High input lag means as a player, you have less time to react to what happens around you, because you are a fraction of a second behind what is actually happening in the game. That means you can die (in the game, people.) Low input lag is one of the prime features of gaming monitors. High refresh rates with support for variable refresh rates is another. For gaming, this is good stuff. But these features conflict with the features that also provide a better picture, or rather to say, a more accurate picture.
When you look at TVs, the TVs that have the best picture achieve their picture quality with post processing before the image hits the screen. The problem is that this creates a massive input lag. This is why you see many TVs that have a specific mode for gaming. Turning on gaming mode turns OFF many of the features. A lot of people do not know all of the features that get turned off. Did you know that local dimming is a post process? So any TV with local dimming, that gets turned off by gaming mode, too.
So the result is that gaming monitors all sacrifice a little bit of picture quality to achieve their speed. You cannot get local dimming in a LED gaming monitor, this means that blacks are going to be just a little less black on a gaming monitor than a good quality TV.
At the price point you are looking at, it will difficult to find a perfect balance between the two. So you need to decide which is more important to you. Do you play video games? Because if you do, a good gaming monitor makes a real difference. If you play online, you WILL be at a disadvantage to many other players if you play on a monitor that doesn't have those gaming features. That doesn't mean you will lose all the time, just that you will be at a disadvantage. But if you don't play many action games and are more serious about your art, then you will want to search specifically for monitors for content creation, which will have more accurate color and black levels.
Once you undock the window, grab it by the top of the window, not the tab. If you grab it by the tab, Studio thinks you are trying to reposition the tab, not move the entire window. You will know its working if the window ghosts the moment you start to move it.

Sorry, I was actually trying to suggest that video games be tested on the 4K TVs at regular TV viewing distances not actual programming and modeling work be done on the TVs. For that I was suggesting 2 FHD 27" or 28" monitors in order to save at least $200 over the price of the 4K monitors. Also creating slide shows of your 4K artstic renders for 4K TVs at TV viewing distances would be suitable.
The density of 4K at 27" or 32" monitor is often too small for people to read text on UIs or so many people say.
This thread has made up my mind to order this July a 2nd FHD computer monitor instead of a 4K computer monitor for at least $200 with buggy and incomplete UI support.
This is just my opinion, but I feel like 1440p is a great compromise between the two. To my eyes, I can see the jump to 1440p quite clearly and instantly over 1080p, so jumping to 1440p is IMO quite worth it. The jump from 1440p is much smaller in scope at this size, and offers diminishing returns. You might be able to see the difference, but it is subtle. Also, running your computer at 4K requires more resources just to do so. I really dig my 1440p monitor. I do play games, so I went all in on the gaming aspect. My monitor runs up to 144 Hz, has just 1ms of input lag, and best of all has Gsync support. Oh man does that make a huge difference. Playing games at 100+ frames per second with Gsync is a truly wonderful thing. No more screen tearing, and the action is smooth as silk.
But that is just me. While this monitor is sweet for games, its black levels are not going to match what a good TV or content focused monitor can do. Still the colors are decent and the black levels are not too soft for me, though I do admit I wish they could be better.
Thanks for the advice. I had a IPS FHD AMD FreeSync already picked out from Philips but I will check out at these 1440P monitors if they aren't substantially more expensive (in which case it'd make sense to just buy a 4K monitor and run the UIs of apps with poorly developed UIs that aren't adjustable on the FHD monitor and not the 4K monitor (eg DAZ Studio).
And the price markup to 1440P is way too much. The Philips IPS FHD with AMD FreeSync is flicker free so that's good enough. I might replace my 14 year old Acer FHD monitor too with another Philips so they'll match. The old Acer definately doesn't have AMD FreeSync or IPS either.
Outrider, could you tell us what monitor you have? I'm looking at gaming monitors myself and would like to see if it's one of the ones I'm considering.
