Maxwell got a new patch. Looking at the release notes all I can think of is: o_O
    .
"It is now possible to render using more than 64 threads"
    .
(Yes there was more than just that, but that's what was listed first.)

    Forum: You are logged in!

    Forum: You are logged in!
    *Clicks Reply button*
PLEASE LOG IN (And for your convenience we direct you to the Log-In dialogue that does not like your face.)

Huh... I wonder why sometimes the forum says I'm logged in but then tells me I'm not, but sometimes doesn't. Also don't understand how only the LogIn button on the top of the screen works while the one the forum brings me to when the forum times-out while typing a post or trying to post while logged-out does not work (For me anyway.)

Anyhoo. Someone said something funny about the Touhou games. Funny because it just so happens to be true:

The first thing you're asked to do after hitting "Start Game" is to select your difficulty level (seeing as not everybody is able to walk in the rain without getting wet when they first start).
And by that they mean "Dodging the rain" and not "using an umbrella" or "Wearing a coat". Cowards. :P
    .
    .
Oh yeah, and on the Glossary & Tips page:
Walking in the Rain Without Getting Wet: A term used to define Lunatic mode. Touhou's highest difficulty level. Lunatic is extremely difficult and not for the faint of heart. You'd be much better off playing Normal before you attempt Lunatic.

TIP about log in and getting loged out: The forums are TIMED from your last login or Last post. ReFreshing does not log you in again or resest your timer. It will show you as still logged in.That is a known hiccup in the forum code. Time logged in from start and time from last post are really your only way to be safe. It can all depend on your browser and the forum bugs if it hits you or not. That is also another known forum code issue. Some people never see it and some people are plauged by it, and no two people have the same PC, Browser, ISP or settings. It will be a hard problem to fix unless it's just some standard code that is missing and has not been noticed yet.

Just FYI in case you care.

Sometimes I have stayed logged in for over an hour without doing anything on the page and sometimes I've been logged out in under 15 minutes.
    .
I only refresh the page to see if I'm still logged in anyways - if the Post Reply button is there, *most* of the time I'm still logged in.
    .
    .
    .
This is with the new forum btw. For me it just seems random. But the more I'm using other tabs and browsing, the faster I get logged out (From what I've seen.)

If you mean Browse another site in another browser tab yes that will help kill your DAZ forum timer. I dont know why but that happens to me also when I browse other sites with Daz open on another tab.

UPDATE: I managed to get pwEffect to work, but I had to:

    - Select the item
    - Go to Surfacing/Rendering
    - Select the item surface AGAIN
    - Back to Loading/Creating
    - Drag the pwEffect on to the thing
    - FINALLY render and see effect

    Not real intuitive. :ohh:

Umm.. All DS shaders are Scene Tab select item, open Surfaces Tab, select Material Zone of item and then goto Shader and Apply (click should work). That's the standard way to use a DS shader. Just some FYI type stuff for you Wooly.

EDIT: You can open any TAB in any window Wooly. The View/Layout is customizable.

I was trying to get Surfaces as part of the Load tab in 4.5 and got nowhere.. but admittedly at the time I was already out of patience and was using the P-word (Poser!) repeatedly! :vampire:

I'll be more motivated to do something about it once DS4.5 is on the new machine, right now all this is just "play n learn".

Ahh.. tis easy grass hopper. Goto your Load Tab, Open your Surfaces Tab now. Now Drag that sucker to were you want it to DOCK. Left screen, right Screen or even to your other tabs that are open, this one is tricky, it will want to be under your tabs if they are set to tabs across the top. It will Snap to and stay untill you Close Tab or move it again.

    Hope that helps ya some.

...well, really beginning to feel bummed about the housing situation. It's making me snippy at the day job as "going home" just doesn't have the same meaning anymore.

I can't afford the "up front" First/Last/Security Deposit move in fees on my income (upwards of 1,500 - 2,000$). Then there's the "nonrefundable" application fees, anywhere from 35 - 50$ a pop (which should be illegal), with no guarantee you'll be accepted. That's about a week's worth of groceries. I may as well open the window on the bus and toss money out it as I ride through town. Imagine if you had to pay an application fee when looking for a job. It;s a bloody racket which only benefits the rental companies, particularly given the presence of the internet today.

One snag I see is this credit rating issue which never used to be an concern. I will admit I don't have much of a credit history (or a "perfect" one). It used to be if you had a steady job that paid enough to afford the rent and good references, that was all you needed. Even though I have been working steadily at the same firm for over seventeen years and have an excellent history at my current residence, I could easily find myself homeless because of some asinine "technicality".

Moving is something I really don't look very forward to. Instead of settling down like I should be doing at this stage of life, I have to deal with disrupting and uprooting everything because of city regulations that do more to put people out on the street than help them get off it.

    Blech, that really sucks.

The whole credit/application fee/deposit thing is helping keep me out of my own place.. it's not quite as bad as there (app fee typically $20, and first+last months rent on move-in) but that still can run $2400+ to get in the door. As much as I'd prefer to have my own place, I'd have to sacrifice a fair amount to save for a few months, THEN fix my so-so credit rating (the divorce did a number on me), THEN hire mover since I don't drive.. so.. I'll deal with a housemate. At least my room has a locking door and it's own A/C so there's no fighting over the thermostat.

I hope something positive comes through for you!

I've always been a HUGE fan of "B" movies - horror and sci-fi. "Mars Attacks" is one of my faves, so is "Forbidden Planet" (not a B), the whole Evil Dead trilogy, The Brain from Planet Aurous, This Island Earth, The Atomic Brain, etc. etc. - you get the idea.

If I ever do a second Web comic, it's going to be a B-movie spoof! :vampire:

Thanks - I'll give that a shot tonight or over the weekend. I really like pwEffect and pwSurface, I'm glad Daz got 'em going.

I don't see pwSketch for DS4, though.. will have to investigate. Maybe it didn't get ported.

Just a passing thought KK feel free to tell me to take a long walk on a short pier. In my area we have loads of foreclosed homes that have been picked up by Rental companies and people that buy just because of the low cost now days. Have you looked into some of the not your first pick areas under Houses for rent in the newspaper and those Rental properties booklets I find in Pharmacy's and Grocery stores? Many of those type listings are much cheaper, and if listed as offered by a Name and not a Company are willing to work with people just to get some income instead of it setting empty. I know your very savvy, and know what your doing so this is just a what if kind of thing. My nephew got into a Needs work two bedroom last year with just a Deposit and first month down when we went outside his comfort zone just a tad. He is now Buying the house with his RENT actually not changing on him. He also likes the area, he just had a bad picture of it before he moved.

...I am at the stage of life where home ownership is pretty moot. The focus on personal credit history and rating has gotten out of hand. I was arrears years ago in repaying student loans. I have been making payments through a payroll deduction. Several years ago I also ended up on owing back taxes due to both having been self employed and an error on my deduction status by my company's CFO. The taxes were paid off and I'm still paying off the college loans.

Anyway, in my book, home ownership is overrated. Besides upkeep and utilities, there is one other disadvantage to owning rather than renting: property taxes (which are fairly high here).

Unfortunately in central Portland, it is a landlord's market. Even a small studio (I'm talking about around 250 - 300 sq feet) without utilities is going for over 600$ a month. Part of this has to do with the metro area's imposed Urban Growth Boundary. In order to avoid unchecked sprawl, hard boundaries to growth were established. This means most of the development has been "vertical". As I do not drive I cannot live in the outlying suburban areas. I need to be in the city. However the speculators and developers have been pushing the average Joe/Jane out of the central area by all the gentrification and upscale dvelopment. For example, just down the street from me there is an older rather "unremarkable" home for sale with a price tag of over a half million (and we are still in a depressed economy out here).

Most of the apartment houses I've looked at here are corporate owned. They can afford to be "choosy" as to who they rent to. I basically need to fall into another deal like I've had for the last fifteen years. With the way things are here, that's like trying to win the lotto twice.

...well it's getting late and I have to get up for work tomorrow so I need to sign off.

Thank you very much for the concern.

do you have a relative you could temporarily move in with to save up some money?

i don't know what i'd do if i had to move. wouldn't be able to cope.
