Can I delete a .obj after converting it?

Hi, I have some .obj files and convert them into daz useable stuff, so I make them as Prop asset or Scene subset, can I delete the obj file then or do I need them because the prop/scene files just links back to the .obj? And the obj is the geometrie save file.
Thanks.
Edit: and another question out of it, when I export part of a product as .obj, then reimport it and save it as Prop, can I give the new Prop Savefile to someone so he have it then too?
I did edited a product from someone, I splitted it in 2 parts to scale it correct down, because when you scale the original product, it would get flat, so I had to split it, then make it as .obj and reloaded that obj, so its not longer in 2 parts, back to 1 part.
I just would like that I can send this "updated" smaller version to the Creator, if he want it, so he can share the smaller version to fans.

Yes, though I would keep it as a back-up just in case.
Once you've imported the object and saved the scene, it should be detached from the .obj itself, however I would recommend against deleting your old .obj and instead placing it somewhere secure, possibly a thumbdrive or the like for archival purposes. You never know when you might want to go back and edit whatever it was in your choice of modeling software, as well as the memories that old creations can hold.
Okay. I did updated the startpost, could you take a look at that please?
In my experience you do need to keep it. I import OBJs all the time and have found that unless i have the original OBJ in the same place where I imported it, I can get the big gray box issue when opening the scene much later or trying to load the saved OBJ.

Woudl also need a answer for this, what is now needed when I wanna share it? Is a Scene subset file enough or is it now a new thing, and I don't know :(
I only used daz3d, so I didnt created new stuff with hexagon, blender etc. so if the suer have the product, it should work then or not?
You cannot share any part of any asset you purchased for DS. You can only share mesh that you create new
Its not purchased on daz, I got it as freebie on Deviantart and I did just variate it, I wanna share it with the Freebie creator, so if he like it he can upload it or put it in the zip, that others can use it too.
generally the rule is to have written consent from the original creator, especially with freebies
uhm... but... I wanna send it TO the creator xD... I just wanna know WHAT do I need to send him, a scene subset file, a prop file, and if I send him the scene subset file with the modified version can he load it or will he need the obj?
You can send the .obj file back TO the creator, nobody else {unless they give you permission}.
Scene subset files are useless unless they also have all the required content. [AFAIK]
The prop file you make from the .obj file can be sent back TO the creator of the original .obj, but nobody else {unless the creator gives you permission}.
The prop file consists of the loading icons AND a file which would be located in the data folders under My Library. In the data folder there would be a subfolder with your handle on it and then another subfolder with the name of the product. When you created the prop file these information fields were shown so you would know where to find them.

After making and saving a prop from an .obj file, yes the .obj file can be deleted. However as others have said, keeping it as backup is okay too.
ok
If you save the object as a Figure/Prop asset it will be fine.
Alternatively save it as a Wearable Preset if it's a clothing item or simlar, and again it should be fine.
As long as you save the data that is the object somewhere it should not need to be kept. The above saves that data. If you want it again, to edit, then export it as an object.
Just be sure of creating some sort of backup.
Are you sure you're doing the second step — saving the imported object as a Prop Asset? Importing then saving as a scene or scene subset isn't the same thing.
As I've recently discovered, a scene-subset can contain the embedded geometry (if it's from an external obj) (if it's from a Daz-format data file (in the data folder) then it's just a reference).
If the scene-subset is a large file, it's probably got embedded geometry in it. Other users will be able to load it and have the geometry show up (at least for the pieces that are embedded - other objects in the scene might be referenced if saved in DS format).
When saving as figure/prop asset, it creates the daz-format geometry in the data folder and you don't need the obj anymore (this is how I create things to sell at Daz - import obj and save as figure/prop asset, then zip up the data/runtime folders and duf files).
