Is my SSD dying or something or is this a bug with Daz Studio?
I'm worried I might be having symptoms of an SSD failure (never actually had one fail before). The symptoms ONLY appear with Daz but have been happening more frequently recently.
The problem I'm having is sometimes, randomly, when loading a scene, I will get the popup that I am missing files. The files are NOT missing. In fact, restarting my PC or restarting Daz is often all that's required in order to get the scene to load correctly.
What worries me is this: Is Daz having trouble reading my SSD? Or is it just a bug with Daz that sometimes things register as missing when they're not missing.
For example, a few hours ago, it was missing critical files to load Genesis 8 (making it appear all blocky in appearance). The files WERE there. (not missing). Closing Daz3D and reopening it did not fix the issue--the first time. Closing and reopening it a second time DID fix it.
All this is just making me nervous that this could be a sign of a dying SSD. But like I've said, I've had many dying hard drives in my day, but none of my 5 SSDs have ever died, so I don't even know what to look for.

If the content is on that SSD, and DAZ Studio is on a different SSD, then, yes, that sounds like DS isn't finding your content drive, for whatever reason. Do you still have access to that content drive (opening files, saving files) through "regular" ways when DS throws the problem?
As for more, I can't say, could be anything from old power unit to database problems, to lose cable, to the SSD really dying - I leave that to those knowing more about tech. :-)
Just to clarify. This is an issue that appears at random and strangely resolves itself just by restarting Daz3D. There are scenes I've been working with for months that will one day show missing files until I restart either Daz or my PC. And then they are found again with no other changes needed to be made on my end.
If you're close to the write limit on an SSD, then is more likely to be it actually stops writing; it will still be able to read any data present.
I'd check your content is installed correctly, and that Studio can see all your folders; note I said Studio (and not DIM).
Check the windows Event Log for read failures of the involved SSD. I wouldn't expect a problem though with sleep management on SSDs but maybe HDDs or SSHDs.
Oh, never mind, I think know what is happening. You are using a product like Brow Remover or some other products that create temporary L.I.E. layers or edited "Surfaces" images on the fly in DAZ Studio, saving the results as a scene, and then later when you try to use the same scene the temporary images used in the scene have been purged as no longer needed. You need to look at the "Surfaces" images in the different slots for temporary images, save those images to a permanent location via File Explorer copy, replace the temp imaging in surfaces with the copied images in their new location, and than save thhe scene. Or sometimes a product like Brow Remover lets you save the edited images to a permanent folder, I know that Skin Builder 8 does, not so sure about Brow Remover.
OMG you were right. How did you know that? Thank you SO much by the way! I couldn't believe it would be as simple as this, but you were right. I just can't believe you just knew that lol.
Seems to have fixed it. I'm just really glad it means my SSD isn't about to drop dead. LOL.
Because I had same problem too but it's been a while as most new characters have eyebrow on and eyebrow off option.
Another reason I hate using LIE. Geoshells FTW!
This is pretty useful when using LIE: https://www.daz3d.com/lie-baker
Interesting. Did DAZ ever say why something like this wasn't a part of LIE to begin with? It's obvious in hindsight, but I didn't realise for a long time why LIE stuff was so slow.
