Material specific light source?
I want to know if there's a way to setup a light that only affects a certain material. For instance I have material A & B, and lightsource 1 & 2. I want to make light 1 affect material A only, and I want light 2 to affect meterial B only.
Is there a way to make light 1 cast shadows on material A alone? Conversely, is there a way to make material A be affected by light 1 alone?

It's pretty easy to set up in 3Delight. For IRay, sorry can't help, could be tricky to do in one render pass.
Excellent. I'm actually only interested in 3Delight. What's the secret?

If you don't have them, get them:) You load a spot or distant light and flag it to only see surfaces with a certain diffuse- or ambient strength. This is done in the parameters pane/light/advanced options or something like that. Busy rendering so can't check atm. Example: You have two characters in the scene, and two AoA spotlights. Set all surfaces of one characters to 100% diffuse strength, and all surfaces of the other to 99% diffuse strength. Now flag one spot to illuminate only surfaces with 100% diffuse strength and the other to illuminate those with 99% diffuse strength.
You can use the ambient channel if you prefer that. Like using 1% ambient strength on one of the characters, and flag the light accordingly.
If you don't have these lights, things will get a little bit more complicated, but it can still be done using light categories or trace groups.
