Running daz on older machine
in The Commons
So I have this older PC which haven't been in use for years now... It has ancient components, core 2 duo 2.8GHz, 4GB of Ram and Nvidia GT315 1GB DDR memory. I do not expect this machine to be ultra fast for anything, let alone Daz Daz Studio. Do you think I could run 32bit version with Generation 3 or 4 sucessfully? 1 or 2 characters max, and probably 3Delight.
Please note it's my second machine which I'd use for fun, learning about older generations as most of my content is Gen3 or 8 currently
Thanks on advance

The GPU would not work in iRay or, likely, dForce.
You'd have a hard time running Win10. So you'd likely want an older version of Windows, XP would likely be your best option.
Other than that the 32 bit version should run no problem.
That is not far off the spec of Win 10 laptop I used for DS before I was given my current obsolete Win 7 machine. It ran DS 4.10. All iRay rendering was in CPU and it was achingly slow. Don't think I ever completed a render with it before Win 10 got so bored it turned the process off. Eventually I only used it to export obj files to go into my 3D printer using Victoria 3. However, I got my more powerful Win7 machine 2 months later & it ceased to be a problem.
The GPU you have won't run the current version of iRay, which needs a much newer driver than the GT315 wil support..
This sounds like the kind of machine I might force myself to use if I've been naughty. You can learn about older generations on your good machine.
I'm currently using an old Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz with 8 GB RAM, PCIe 1.1, and a GTX 1070, for rendering. 64bit version of DS. Works fine except for the limitations the 8 GB RAM imposes. Rendering with the NVidia card is pretty fast, completes Sickleyield's Iray Benchmark scene https://www.deviantart.com/sickleyield/art/Iray-Scene-For-Time-Benchmarks-519528033 in 4-5 minutes. With CPU alone the test takes over 2 hours.
...sounds like my old 32 Bit Toshiba notebook sans the GT 315.
How much HDD space?
If the G8 freebies are made correctly they should work OK in later versions of DS as they are, DSON is only for Poser import. They won't work in Poser by default, some seem to have found some workarounds but I haven't tried myself: https://forum.smithmicro.com/topic/2745/genesis-8-in-poser-pro-11-done/3
BTW, Core 2 is 64 bit so you should be able to run the 64 bit version of DS though with only 4 GB RAM I don't know how much difference it makes.
DSON is the format used for .duf files, the Poser plug-in is the DSON Importer - that is, an importer for the native Daz Studio DSON files.
Windows10 will run in a 4GB machine but it's not pretty, especially with a DAZ scene in memory too. It's like the circus fat lady trying to change clothes in an airplane restroom while nursing her baby.
Oh, Ok, well I did mean the DSON importer here.
Blender 2.79 would work fine although you wouldn't want to render on your old computer. I have Blender 2.79 running on an old 2003 Toshiba Portege M205 convertable tablet and Windows 7. The tablet is so old that Windows 8+ won't run on it and maxes out at 4GB RAM.
...that's a bit more, mine has a 320 GB drive (replacing the original 80 GB one that failed)
CPU rendering of any kind on a 10 year old dual core is not going to be fun. The 4GB of RAM is not going to help either. I suppose with all the old content you would be using, it would effectively equal out a bit.
