I'm trying to do a render with the https://www.daz3d.com/solaris-portal but I'm having issues with blown out highlights when I get the illunation up to proper levels. Are there any recommended settings to get even and naturally ambient looking light for this set?

Thanks!

Try setting Nominal Luminance to 200 (Render Settings tab - Filtering).

Also try lowering the values of Burn Highlights and Crush Blacks (Render Settings tab - Tone Mapping).

Sorry for the incomplete render (bedtime is calling) but what I used here was the Solaris Portal, Ryder for G8M, SciFi Space Suit, one of the DimensionTherory, and a camera with an atttached iRay section plane (here is a quick tutorial: https://youtu.be/GCJfIlk-4Yo).  The section plane creates a virtual hole in the wall which lets the HDRI light shine in:
