This weeks PC+ freebie Utopia Hallway has no rooms! Doors open out onto nothing. My poor character stepped out to a 1000 foot fall. Nothing left but a pretty purple splat.

...so, you see, doors really shouldn't opendevil

    Aww, c'mon, don't exaggerate.

It's clearly stated that it is only the 10th floor; she dies much faster....

It's because it's a utopia, everyone therefore lives on the top (or ground) floor by pereference .

All the floors between are just there to make the average normal person's penthouse to their height specifications.

Looks like one could put the Utopia apartment behind one of those doors. Likely have to hide some bits that'd overlap, but at least they'd have a matching look since they're part of the same series...

The real problem is that the name ISN'T Utopia Hallway or Utopia 10th Floor Hallway, but Utopia 10th Floor, a name that clearly does implies an entire floor.  Even worse is the fact that not only is the product's name misleading, but the item won't even show up in the DAZ search if you search for "hallway," even though that's literally all there is to the product.  I've posted a couple of threads recently about the increasing lack of correlation between DAZ product names and what's actually included and the problem only seems to be growing.  Yes, it's just a freebie for now, but if at some point in the future a customer was actually looking to buy a hallway, the fact that an actual DAZ product that fits that need can't be found by using the single most logical search parameter is a pretty sad commentary on how little care is being put into how the store is managed these days.

Yup. But this is not a NEW phenomenon, although its frequency has increased.

Which is what's so bizarre.  One would think that a company would get better at isolating potential problems during the QC/marketing process if they considered it an issue, but the catalog is getting noticeably more poorly maintained in general, being filled with dead links to missing read-mes, non-links or non-mentions of required products, a complete lack of any attempt to re-codify older products as being 3DL or Iray ready, and an increasingly useless search system.  Heck, the only reason that it's as usuable as it is is due to people from outside DAZ creating apps to rectify things that DAZ should have fixed on their own.

Which of course, generates revenue; to be fair, Daz need that revenue or no Studio development.

Good point, nicstt, but one tech-savvy anal retentive could solve the problem, although that $60,000 could easily be spent on something else or pocketed as profit.

I'm just happy it was free and the door indeed opened. I have gotten many sets like this before that the doors didn't open.  I have tons of different apartments sets I am sure i can find one that will work with one of these doors.

    Thanks for the PC+ Freebie

Which would be fine if they weren't spending some of that money on things like redesigning the carousels on the store front page for the third time and making animated sale pages that are only used once, when it could have gone to updating/fixing all of the broken documentation.

Of course you are all assuming that the building is built from the ground up, if it starts underground then the 10th floor might be ground level, maybe Utopia is us all living as underground to avoid the excessive solar radiation from a damaged atmosphere, a swelling sun, or whatever particular global catastrophe floats your boat, or maybe it's because future us like living below ground, much cooler so no need for air-con.

Or maybe we have all evolved to a higher state of being and grown wings and the 10th floor is the launch platform?

Maybe the 10th floor is the place they put all the inter dimensional portals, add 'The Void' to each door and away you go.

It's not real folks, anything is possible.

But in the original post, The girl is falling 1000 feet to her doom. Therefore Utopia is not only not underground, it is floating about 900 feet in the air. Although the idea of each door containing a different environment/reality does have merit. Still I like my original concept.

Actually it seems to be part of an "Utopia" series of products, which includes the missing room/apartment:

    Utopia Apartment Interior  -  https://www.daz3d.com/catalog/product/view/id/063663
    Utopia Living  -  https://www.daz3d.com/catalog/product/view/id/062957

But not Utopia Labs, Utopia Deck C. Utopia CItyscape Blocks, etc.  A very good point though, and an even better argument that the description for this product should have had the associated products actually mentioned in it.  It's basic ommissions like this that makes one wonder if anyone really thinks about how the products are used anymore, or just concentrates on shoveling the items out the door as fast as they can.

Speaking of bathrooms, you might not want to have a path leading right up to your window so people can watch you in the shower.

...seems every bathroom here has a big window by the shower/tub.  Even Wash Down has one in in the shower stall.

Crikey, some even have skylights and a few are outdoors.

Pretty much every place I lived in had no big window (or for that fact one of any size) right above the tub or one in the shower stall.  The only exception was the house I grew up in back in Milwaukee (and that had heavily etched glass in the window as well as a shade).

    Actually, I've stayed in a hotel that had exactly that.  We were on the beach level floor at what was then called the Princeville Resort on Kaui, so our door opened directly out onto the beach (if you've seen the movie South Pacific, that was exactly the view from our room) and the room had a massive shower/bath/jacuzzi with a huge window for looking at the scenery.  However, the trick was that the entire window was covered with an electrochromatic film that converted it from transparent to opaque at the turn of a dial.  Pretty dang snazzy tech at the time (this was in 2003), but now you can buy variants of the same stuff on Amazon for $50 US . https://www.amazon.com/HOHO-Electronic-Switchable-Electric-21cmx29-7cm/dp/B07428XTF7 ;

  • seen a few houses on sale with big windows from floor to ceiling for bathrooms and toilets they've shown a few on tv on some of our lifestyle shows presenters love them, most are one way windows me I'd still be paranoid people could see through from outside still

My aunt's bathroom has a skylight and that took some getting used to. The etched glass example above looked like a bunch of spiders to me, and was almost scary enough to make a person immediately run for the nearest exit, not even thinking about what deer, reptile, or 900-foot fall might be on the other side. But other than that, everything is fine.
