Just curious butwhat is the added value of making this character not compatible with Genesis 8
To me (and maybe im wrong) this is bad because nothing works out of the box. Every other asset/hair/clothing/etc. risks needing soem extra fiddeling to make right.
He did Leon which is a good looking teen and said he would make more assests which never happened (as far as i can see)
So why would I go for a character like this?

Comments
Because he doesn't look like a Genesis character. Apart from the jawline, he has a bit of Pete Davidson about him. But yeah, you really, really have to like the look of him.
All poses for Genesis 8 will work fine with this guy out of the box, maybe with some minor tweaks, as for all custom Genesis figures.
Well i dont count poses as in 99% of the cases they always need some tweaking. Every figure has a different height so Michael 8 and victoria 8 shaking hands may work out of the box but when you switch to monique 8 the arm pose needs some tweaking. I understand that.
But im talking more about clothing and hair.
I understand he goes for a different look and that I respect. I just try to understand why he puts so much time and energy in a character that is potentially so limited in what you can do.
And to clarify i am not trying to hate or bash on your product. There are PA's out there who make characters that all look the same or sisters and that's fine.
But im just wondering if you can have Vlad look like Vlad with the G8 as a base making your product way more (and easier) compatible with all the great stuff that is out there.
#JustArtistsThings I guess...
Though a G8M compatible figure might sell better?!?
@Vyusur That would be excellent information to include in bold letters on Vlad's product page: "All poses for Genesis 8 will work fine with Vlad out of the box, maybe with some minor tweaks, as for all custom Genesis figures." You could also mention how well or if G8 clothes fit him. Relatively few people come to the forums. Thanks for making the clothes and hair Genesis 8 compatible, and for making it almost free to get Vlad (via the bundle) if we want the hair and outfit.
Genesis are awesome, but they don't give me the creative freedom I need.
I agree as it might help sell your product better as people will be less 'scared' to buy your product of compatibility isues.
I totaly get creative freedom. but i fail to see the 'limit'. My appology if i sound ignorant but when look at Oli and Edna, they got high praise because the looked nothing like G8 and when i look at characters from Rawart who specialises more in monster like fantasy characters they dont look remotely to G8 yet they are compatible or based of G8.
Im probably oversimplifying or i come of as an isiot by saying:
I start Zbrush, i load in the default G8 and i start claying untill i get the desired look. I press save and i have my character. (I know its not as easy as i discribe it here).
So in what way do you feel limited?
Saying of creativity, I don't mean the appearance but mostly technical aspects. I'm afraid, it's impossible to understand if you don't know the anatomy of rigging (bones, weight mapping etc).
Does Vlad have his masculine parts? If not can he easily borrow from a Genesis dude?
Not yet. He is too young. And he is not compatible with any of Genesis geografts.
yes that is something more should be aware of, they are gaining a bonus standalone figure rather than missing out on Genesis 8 compatibility
I will still have to wishlist though as Australia just is too below parity with the US dollar still
Since my name was brought up, I feel I should respond.
With any 3d figure there are always limitations, but there are also a number if different ways in which those limitations can be handled. Many of my creatures do deviate from the human norm of the base figure alot. To deal with that I have to adjust the rigging and make alot of JCM morphs and MCM morphs to make them function nicely in d/s. Wether one wants to go through that method or decide if they want to release a completely unique figure with their own unique rigging is entirely up to their own personal choices. There really is no limit to creativity as there is no right or wrong approach as to how to handle limitations. It is just whatever approach is better for the individual artist, and how much compatability they feel is required for use with other products.
I picked up Leon as a Temp PC+ back in Oct, nice character though I don't really render Teens or below, but the big problem for me is lack of a clone so he (and I assume Vlad) can use G8M clothes and hair easily. I tried making a clone for him and gave up. I really like the Vlad messy hair and the outfit I can probably use (not a fan of skinny jeans). Do I want a teen with little compatiblity with G8M clothes unless I figure out how to make a clone? At the moment Leon is only of limited use in my renders because I have 2 outfits and 2 hairs and can't dial spin to give him a different look. Maybe if all these standalone characters were made off the same mesh and a clone could be included it would make them more flexible. I think most of us need be able to make the maximum use of the content we buy. I'm all for artistic creativity but it needs to include flexibilty on the customers end too to make the most of the purchase and our creativity.
I made clones for my children figures far ago, they were imperfect and were rejected because of possible low commercial value. I guess, almost all clones are imperfect. And I gave up with this subject.
Congratulations @Vyuser for stepping outside the norm and realising your vision so successfully! As mentioned by others, highlighting your achievement more in the promo text re compatibility isn't essential but could only strengthen what is already a really fascinating creation!
Thank you very much!
I've just uploaded G8 clones for Leon and Teena into freestuff section on Rendo. As I mentioned before, these are not perfect for footwear.
Autofit has problems with footwear anyway. Thanks for the clones, they'll be useful.
You are very welcome!
Thanks Vyusur that will be a big help. Not seeing them on Rendo yet but I'll keep checking in case it is awaiting aproval. And no clone works perfectly for footwear so that really isn't a problem :-)
You are welcome! I hope they will appear soon.
Thanks for the clones! Perhaps Vlad can get a clone too?
You are welcome. We'll see.
Thank you for the clones. Seems you gave us a full set with both G3 and G8, both sexes. WOOT!
Thank you for the clones, Vyusur - I love the Leon character but struggled to clothe him, I hope I will be able to expand his wardrobe now.
There is the other side of reality that DAZ is a business, a marketplace for 3d content which relies on income to stay online. While a stunning achievement in creativity, a standalone human figure has little commecrail value due to it's lack of compatability with other products that will expand it's use for consumers.
I have seen some quality products from new and existing PAs that DAZ has passed on, so I am amazed that standalone figures like these even made it into the store.
I agree with the OP. Although compatibility over creativity in a product is more important for me as a user, I applaud Vyusurs skill and creativity.
It's like anchovies. A lot of people don't like them, some even hate them, and they don't go with everything. But when they do go with something, like pizza or a Caesar salad, some people think they're really, really good. Does that mean stores should be criticized for selling anchovies?
can people lay off the annoying analogies already.
Analogies are a lot like mustard you know.
