AHA!!! I've been searching for the commercial thread for this! :D It's just hit the store! :D :D EXCITED!!!!!!!
I'm a big fan of the Dreamlight products and I can't wait to get started with this. My only question (forgive me if I'm being dumb) but in the what's included, a 59 page PDF manual is mentioned. Where do I find this? I've checked the install files and searched online but can't seem to find it. :)
it's not in the ReadMe folder?
I've just double checked by doing a search for *.pdf across all of my Daz folders and nothing for Studio Light Pro shows up. Any idea what the document is called?
sorry, i haven't got it yet - I was making an educated guess. I ALWAYS forget to check that readme folder so was just throwing it out there. :D
According ot the readme file tho, the file list doesn't show the pdf at all....adn I believe those file lists are automatically generated, so my guess is that it may have been left out.
Dreamlight will be online soon I think anyway, so he'll know what happened to it. :D
In the meantime, are you liking the lights?? I really want to get it - finances are just dictating that i can't at the moment - but i'm dying to see people's renders with it. :D
So far yes, It's a great addition but i'm trying to be good and read the documentation first, rather than just dive in and ignore it. I have a bad habit of not getting the most from the products I buy.
LOL i know the feeling. :D
Can't. Wait.
Can't spell light without Dreamlight. :)
Just a quick question. Is this a standalone light that only needs Daz Studio, or does it need Photoshop like the last Dreamlight Light set?
I'm hoping to see some renders by other uses to see what people can do with this. I use the AoA lights and am curious what kinds of stuff this can do to fill in any 'holes' left by AoA.
The description says nothing about how the light influence the render time. I would like to hear about some experience with this lights and how they influence the render time. Please ;)
If the vendor follows his current trend, it's a likely scenario.
I don't think this needs photoshop. Looking at the file list it appears to be a light set with various lights for different uses along with some presets for certain popular types of scenes.
The product page doesn't mention needing Photoshop or any other software but I am beginning to wonder how accurate it is. In the description it says:
"Choose from hundreds of presets and lights that will change the way you light your DAZ Studio renders forvever..."
But when you look at the "what is included and features" tab it says you get fifteen presets and eleven lights. What happened to the hundreds?
The examples look good but I think I'll wait and see how other people get on with it before deciding.
Unfortunately Dreamlight's hyperbole often get in the way of a good product.
That's not to say I don't like them, I've almost always loved them. But the grandiose claims can really leave the wrong impressions.

They do get a bit carried away at times.
My main reservation about Dreamlight is continued support of their products. I bought Light Dome Pro 2 and Mood Master for Daz Studio 3 and they were excellent products but when Daz Studio went up to version 4 both of these were abandoned, no upgrades paid or otherwise.
With the current state of Daz Studio I expect another upgrade like the 3 to 4 one is unlikely in the near future, but if it was Daz would never tell us until it was about to happen.
There was an upgrade price for the new Light Dome. It was hidden, but it was there.
And I was also caught up by their discontinue. I bought them as a bundle, not realizing half of the items had been abandoned. So I've never actually used Mood Master or the previous Light Dome.
I agree, same here, and I've avoided his products mainly because of it. I did get this one (haven't installed yet) and hope for good things. However, I like others have pretty much switched from Uber to AoA lights and this package depends on Uber. Granted AoA ambient doesn't use HDR images which I will still use but only with HDR Pro sets by Dimension Theory. Otherwise if I use a set I substitute AoA for Uber since AoA can be much much much faster to render and easier to use. I kind of doubt I'll be able to substitute here.
No renders?
Any feedback on the actual product?
Disappointed!
Somebody get their grubby fingers on this.
I don't get paid for another 48 hours.
I need to live vicariously through others. :)
I too would like to see the pdf that I supposedly purchased with the product :(
Send in a support ticket saying that it is missing from the files so they can get an update out. :D
I just bought the product today.
I can't find the manual.
What would be a good model skin to render?
I have DAZ 4.6.
I also have Advanced DAZ Studio Light Bundle to compare with.
I have the Domina - Character and Outfit Bundle.
How should I configure the skin and the render settings to make a test render?
Not clear on what materials I need to apply and in what order for the skin.
I actually thought it is the same old light products he has, just repackaged to work with DS 4.6 (with .duf extension), hence the "DS 4.6 Edition" and since the promo images look to be the same as with his older products, i.e. http://www.daz3d.com/pro-pack-1-ldp-slp, which is comprised of the Light Dome Pro and Studio Light Pro. As some of you, I spent money buying his older lighting products at the time they came out, but disappointed that they were never updated to work with the new versions of DAZ Studio.
I posted a support ticket yesterday regarding the missing manual but I've not had a response yet. Keep you posted.
For a test render, the default settings would be best, so you can judge easily how the light works.
I am missing the pdf as well! :-(
A few tests... render time takes a bit long depending on the settings. Results are good for me.
Just getting confused about how to light up with the presets a scene with 3 characters. Without that manual it's time consuming :-(
Hey Peter, it's standalone and does not need Photoshop... ;)
The DS 4.6 Edition is a revamp of the "older" DAZ Studio 2 version. It has 800+ lights, presets and variations. That is, for instance if you open up a light type, it can be made of several quality versions, various colors and then various positions. Just the Soft Box alone, has 5 quality settings, 5 colors each and 16 positions each, which quals 400 variations on that light alone (5 x 5 x 16).
If we count Soft Box, Super Spot, Area Light And Magic Sphere alone (that is only 4 of the 11 light types and without the presets, we're hitting 736 variations.
I never make any claims I cannot backup. SLP DS 4.6 has easily over 800 vairations, that is, icons that preload a ready to render light or preset at various quality settings, colors and positions. (It's actually 823, but I didn't count that close)
They do get a bit carried away at times.

So sorry about the missing PDF! Not sure what happened there...
While DAZ fixes the PDF file, you can access it here:

As for which skin to use, SLP does not rely on any specific skin types or settings. It's mainly a light solution, that lights whatever is there. Try with the default one, and then use others and compare what looks best. If the skin looks good, it will look good with SLP too...
You might want to try and reduce skin ambient (and / or subsurface scattering) and see how that looks, since it can add additional lighting.
