Blender cycles render: gpu / cudas or cpu ... Question ...

Hi all,

the question: I found 2 used processors here in Brazil, extremely cheap:
Intel Xeon X5660 6/12 - 3.2ghz Turbo Boost ... Obviously I would have to buy a motherboard for these, because my current one is 1155 for intel i7 second generation.
But ... What if I bought a used gtx 1080, to render blender scenes with gpu cudas?
Will blender cycles render be faster via gpu? Do cycles really benefit from cuda as daz Iray?

Cycles can use CUDA (you need to specifically set it to do so in the preferences) - I don't render much with Blender but when I do, it uses my GPU (also for baking out textures which I use more often, though it's slower than other programs for that, it's still faster with GPU than CPU (but then I've only got an i5)).

    OI! Tudo bem?

There is no question. A single GTX1080 will be several times faster than that Xeon. On my box, a single RTX2080ti is 6 times faster than a 32 thread Threadripper 1950X. An RTX2080 with Optix in Cycles will be twice as fast as the GTX, in many cases. If there's any possibility of getting an RTX, they are REALLY worth it, with Optix enabled.

But also keep in mind that if you do any simulations in Blender, I don't think any of them are OpenCL enabled, so a CPU with faster single thread performance would benefit there. But of course, you'll spend much more time rendering than simulating, so I would certain get the 1080.

Boa sorte e mantenha a gente informada sobre o seu progresso!

Wow!! This is exactly the type of clarification I was looking for !!! That's what I wanted to know!
In that case, I will continue with my second generation intel i7 2700, and leave the xeons aside.
and I will decide to buy a used gtx 1080ti.
But I need to wait until the second half of May to make this purchase.
Thanks a lot for the help
