Can you render out an IRAY Viewport-preview to a file?
Hey, I'm wondering about a thing recently. So I'm working on an IRAY scene with 4 fully clothed characters (G8) which is far too much for my GPU to handle (GTX980ti).
This was expected and I knew I would have horrible render times given my GPU only has 6GB vram and my cpu would take over. (I'm using Scene optimizer and hiding all objects that are not in frame, but still)
The thing is, the preview iray-viewport render has no problems rendering a pretty okay image in about no time, even letting the denoiser kick in, which it wouldn't do with the real render. So right now I'm ending up screenshotting the fullscreen iray-preview of the viewport (in about 1920x1080 resolution) because this gives me a better image in 5 minutes than the real render of a 1280x960 pic in 2 hours.
How can this be and is there a way to use this magical viewport settings to render out an image to a file? How can it be that fast and even use my GPU?
Thanks!

File>Save Last Draw, as I recall. The difference in speed is going to be down to different settings in Render Settings and Draw Settings (the latter controls the preview).
Oh wow, that's it! Thank you very much!
OK, I'm a little late, but I also thank you very much.
- Carrara user finally seeing the beauty of DAZ Studio & iRay
just pick viewport instead of iray or 3Delight in the dropdown in the render tab
Many thanks. I'm wondering if animation in DAZ Studio is more possible than I thought. For now I'm still sticking with DS iRay backgrounds with Carrara animations in the foreground. Yes, I am biased toward Carrara.
Unless i'm doing something wrong, that just results in an opengl render, not iray, even if the viewport is set to iray preview when you press the render button.
As a warning, the iray preview mode is using Interactive mode instead of Photoreal mode by default.
This simplifies the math iray is carrying out, thus leading to less than stellar results.
You can switch to this mode in the render settings and get the same results.
oh, I wrongly assumed it would as it works for Filament, wireframe etc, know 3Delight won't, you can use interactive render with lower settings and save a similar style
Firstly, Ctrl + 0 to Iray Preview, in Draw Settings pane, set Draw Mode to Photoreal, then File > Save Last Draw.
There is also that 'Capture' button at the top of the Draw Settings pane.
Indeed ! Thank you !
The first time I used the capture button or Files Save last draw, I don't know why, but I was surprised when the resulting PNG was 1167 x 659. :)
