Hi. Is there a I-Ray grass shader out there something in the likes of the one we had from AOA for 3DL?
or any other methods for achieving those effects.
that shader was a time saver and a wonderful mask for covering up nasty spots in geometries.

This is the nearest I can think of that might work for what you want.

thanks for your reply. i had a look at the page. on the first promo is a grass effect in action. not sure if that is "their"shader at work.
Nvm that comes out of Iray worlds from magix 101
It's not a shader as such, but there is a dForce Hair-based grass generator in:

oh that looks more like it yes.
thanks.and cheers
What settings did you use to get the different grass effects?
It's just the leaf shader on the Thicket Plane and made it a bit tall (Y scale).
These 2 Daz products both have iRay Grass Shaders…

Subsurface Workshop - SSS Shaders for Iray (with 4 Grass Presets)

And this iRay product can create grass...

Using highly instanced low poly grass objects will always look a lot more realistic than any grass shader IMHO.
Thanks. It looks really good. Is it practical to double up with a thinner layer with a colour variation?
I don't know if two dForce hair items will be any more to render than one dForce hair item with twice as many hairs. So, hey, experiment!
Don't know if it's useful for what you're trying to do because it's not a shader, but this free product is kickass: https://erock3d.com/download/erock3d-free-grass-system/
That looks really good. He mentions it being a bit heavy. How is it in practice?
^ I CPU render anyway, so I can't give you useful spec infos. But yeah, it's individual blades of grass. Each blade has a diffuse, translucency, normal, and top coat map. As you can imagine, it looks really good, also up close.
You can of course disable whatever maps you want, use it sparingly in spots that are further away from the camera, etc.
I did a test once:

Like it says I used 3 layers of grass here to make it more dense but that worked fine with only 8 GB RAM.
