Seam Issue - Came up before...

Anyone know why I get these seams at the intersection of UVs when using HDRI/environment lighting with characters?  Also, if it matters, I have the skin shader set to use SSS and this seems (not pun intended) to be part of the issue.  I know this topic came up before but for the life of me I could not find it using the search Forums feature.  As a bonus, if anyone knows how to fix this issue it'd be super appreciated.  Thanks!

Well some more research... this effect does not happen when I turn Transmitted Distance to 0...so that has something to do with it...

Is part of the leg or torso made invisible in any way?

  • This also seems to only happen when using Spectral Lighting so that's something to take into consideration. I have also come across this, though only when Spectral lighting is ON but not with all skin textures/settings.

Hmm ok let me fiddle with that and see if it makes a difference for me... thx

No, no parts are hidden.  Looks to be something funky when doing transmitted SSS between seams in general...  but only when using environment lighting.  If I turn off all environment lighting and just use Photometrics lights, then i do not have this issue.  Weird...

Ok, so as ParallaxCreates recommended I turned off Spectral Rendering and sure enough that fixed it.  Thanks much Parallax!!

A shame we need to turn off a feature to make this work! I wonder what the seams are all about. There is mention of them all over the forums, but nobody seems to know why or how to fix it (other than don't use Spectral!)

I've had this problem several times since I'm using SSS and Spectral rendering almost everytime. I've read somewhere that this is an Iray bug, but I don't remember where. The only real solution I found so far is, as mentioned, turn of Spectral rendering, BUT using low "... Measurement Distance" values helps too. The seams disapear completely if both values are zero, so you can make them at least barely visible with lower values.
