It better not. They were not affected, and there is no real "update" to the metadata, just to what Connect was using.

The products with the thumbnails pointing to the old location should have been updated. At least for the products that were reported, but we will be going through all of the products that were released before the store switchover to update their thumbnail locations. For us DIM users, is it safe to reconnect Studio to Connect?  There's a product that I've been wanting to use that only installs correctly though connect (ticket about it has been open for 6 days with no response so far).

I almost exclusively install content using DIM except when I manually install content (such as freebies from Renderosity) or when DAZ Studio doesn't recognize content as being installed unless installed via Connect.  I don't use Connect because I don't have the flexibility (as far as I know) of choosing where content is installed  when using Connect and the rather bizarre folder and naming protocols used by Connect.  I still have many missing thumbnails though.

I have a strong feeling that the store update was not the issue. the first time I have noticed that Daz Connect was behaving weird was when genesis 8.1 was released. The G8.1 Starter essentials were insatlled correctly via DIM, plus all the other files (Powerpose templates etc), but once you connected to Daz Connect, the Starter Essentials have been "hijacked" and moved to "PowerPose Male Template" in Smart Content. From then, it got worse.

One of the advantages of a Mac is TimeMachine, so it is easy for me to revert to the last time the CMS database was fine.

Did DS go online? It was that that allowed the thumbnails to be lost, not instalaltion.

Well, I am not sure if anything in the Smart Content got fixed at all. Actually, it seems to me it is looking worse and worse every day. The attachment shows my most recently installed Smart Content as of now.

I also have sometimes missing thumbnails  when installing products via DIM. I had filed tickest, the only feedback I got, unfortunately, was that the metadata has been fixed and I should set Studio online....

The thumbnail fixing is currently at SKU #62000, so it should be fully complete by tonight or tomorrow morning. The products with tickets got a first pass, this is for the rest of the store products.

Seasons Magus currently doesn't have a thumbnail pic in the zip file, unless it has been updated very recently. Social Distance Restaurant has a full-blown promo pic at 1000 x 1300 px as the installed thumbnail. If I remember correctly, the DIM thumbnail was missing, the one you get in the tooltip when you hover over it. Don't know about Kristin Dress.

The DS would have tried to update metadata and would have received the missing thumbnail, replacing the good thumbnail from installation. This is what is in the process of being fixed.

Going up or down on the SKU numbers, please?

Because I see missing thumbnails for SKU 17320 and SKU 74447 alike.

Followed directions outlined in this thread and re-installed every thing via DIM, and all seems well, Just wanted to add that some of the products now have slightly different Icons now than what they were with Daz connect. Some of the Anatomical Elements even have different names. Is that suppose to be?

  • Here is a usefull link:

    https://abrushant.artstation.com/pages/daz-studio--how-to-fix-missing-content-thumbnails--icons-in-windows

In the end I solfed the problem by copying all missing icons from the meta folder of my girlfriends computer into my meta folder ;-)

The thumbnails in the new BETA are still not loading and Zilpha still loads with every G8F character. The regular DS no longer has this problem. How can this be fixed?

That sounds as if they are pointing to different content directories, or the same directories in a different order, and the beta is finding the older version of the Zilpha files (or finding them before the updated versions).

    To fix any ill-behaving morphs (=Zilpha), do as follows;

    1. Open DS and load "Genesis 8 Basic Female" (to an empty scene)
    2. Right Click at Parameters Tab->Preferences->Choose "Show Hidden Properties" (part 3 zeroes only 'visible' dials)
    3. Right Click at Parameters Tab->Zero->Zero Figure (Zeroes the value of all the 'visible' dials)
    4. Right Click at Parameters Tab->Memorize->Memorize Figure (Sets the current value of all the dials as their default value)
    5. Edit->Save As->Support Asset->Save Modified Assets (Writes the changed default value to the morph files that were changed)

    When saving "Modified Assets" DS shows a dialog and asks for confirmation;
"The following file(s) will be permanently modified:" - "Accept/Cancel" - Choose "Accept"

  • The thumbnail has not been fixed yet.
    When will it be fixed?
    It's very annoying.

I followed the instructions in this post (from another thread, also about the missing thumbnails :) ), it was surprisingly easy and painless :)

Maybe I understood it wrong, but isn't it that you have to copy, rename and paste some jpg in different folders for EACH product? With more than 100 products with missing thumbnails I wouldn't call that easy and painless.

Yes, that's basically what you need to do. However, the renamed jpg's are going into the same folder (the one called Meta in the cloud folder). But essentially, yes you have to copy one jpg from the folder of each product that are missing a thumbnail, and than rename that one before moving it to the Meta folder. I started with copying the jpg's from each product folder, than got some coffee and sat down to rename them. Before moving them over to the Meta folder at the same time.

I considered it rather easy and painless compared to some other work arounds that has been around over the years for different problems :) Besides, the first batch of copy-renaming-moving might be a big one, but the following ones (when you buy something and if the problem still is around) shouldn't be as many :)

It was easy for me to fix too, but I only had 5 missing thumbnails.

But this fix is only a bandaid. The next time you login to DAZ Studio and Connect updates metadata, it will screw up the thumbnails again. At least that is what happened to me.

And with more people experiencing this issue, sure would be nice if DAZ could just fix this so that people are not going through this mess.

After applying the fix would it be possible to backup/copy the said directory to another storage location and applying it to the new installation? Or would it still revert to the same issue?

  • Wha? The last post was from Feb 2022?? I got a new computer and installed everything fresh from Daz through DIM (as Daz's page suggested).

It's ALL brokem. My entire library of over 2,500 items have no thumbnails.

Please tell me that the manual way is not the only way to fix this?

There are a lot of thumbnails. Thumbnails for the Products in DIM? Thumbnails for the Products in Smart Content? Thumbnails for each asset (each prop, pose, material preset, etc.)?

I have run into this and found three reasons:

    1. No thumbnail included. Check Runtime>Support. I have a file of all the previous thumbnails I had to create and move it again into place. Otherwise I make a new one. I keep a master copy of my created thumbnails on Google Docs but also on each computer.

    2. Daz has been changing the Support line on the Content DB Editor that you can open up on your Smart Content page by selecting it, clicking 'Edit Metadata' and then comparing that line to what is in your actual Runtime>Support list, which will need to match. I copy the Content DB Editor support line to 'Notes' and trim out /Runtime/Support/ and often when I have done that, my Mac has updated the actual Runtime>Support .dsx line to match. I then copy and paste the line to the existing .dsb and .jpg or .png files.

    3. Recently I am finding for unknown reasons, some files don't want to see .jpg so I have to make the file into a .png. Or vice versa. No clue why.

As to why the support line is changing, I can't find a specific pattern, on some they are adding '(s)' on others they are removing the '(s)'. But this change is not making it to the files we have in our actual file structure, only on the Smart Content. And I just set up two new computers, a MacMini M4 and Windows 11, and had to deal with this twice. Not fun. But I am a visual person and look for those thumbnails. I also get rid of those dreadful 'DAZ Logos' that replace valid thumbnails for some unknown reasons.
