In case anyone is interested in all the Nvidia news, GTC is happening. There's a lot that's really technical over-my-head type stuff, but there will also be some things pertinent to stuff we're doing, like Iray Hair rendering. And I suppose there will be some product announcements, although delivery dates will be a bit up in the air for the foreseeable.

So there's an Iray presentation by the Iray development lead, most of which I didn't get, but which talks a lot about the history of Iray development, and then goes on to talk about raytracing and hair.
Registration is required.

There's also a talk about migenius and Amazon Iray servers, what they call Visuals as a Service. Apparently everything is "as a Service" now.

Iray renders hair quite nicely. Inside DAZ with the dual lobe shader I was surprised to see how good hair in Iray can look. Never expected that.
What shaders are you using? Can you recommand some shaders?
I am not happy at all, with the look of dforce strand hairs, yet.
Looks way to much like cotton candy to me.
However I admit not all hair will look good by donning any shader. Your output geometry is also equally important. This also applies for SBH although the geometry is generated during rendering only but it's similar, more or less. I can only speak for realistic hair not for other styles of hair... Your hair will only look like realistic if it's modelled like realistic hair and if the geometry supports the strength of the shader, especially the shine and transmission settings. Otherwise it will still look dull.
