DForce simulation

Hi all. I am having a problem and hopefully someone can help me. Whenever I load a DEforce clothing item on a character, then open the simulation tab, I leave every setting at default. I make sure there are no other items in the scene but the bald character I am using, usually G8 female. I select the clothing item in the paremeters pane, then I click the blue simulate button. It will say preparing kernals for a few seconds, then it changes to simulating. That is where it all stops and freezes the simulation pane in the center of the screen. The timer stops at 1 second and I can't get anything to stop, close, pause or anything. I have to click the top of the window where it says Daz (not responding) and choose to close the program. This happens with every DEforce clothing item I have. I have Daz 4.12
Why? What can I do to get this to work? Help please!

You should only get that message once (not sure the circumstances, but it's something like after updating video drivers or a new Daz version). On the advanced tab of the Simulation Setting pane, is your Open CL device your GPU or CPU? If GPU, did you recently upgrade your video driver? I think more recent version of Daz Studio requires a more recent video driver for dFroce to work.
If you go to the Advanced tab of Simulation Settings what is the OpenCL device set to?
It says Intel (R) OpenCL Intel (R) HD Graphics 630
There does seem to be another choice to pick from
it says core i3-7100 CPU @ 390 ghz.
So you don't have a stand-alone GPU on that system?
Not sure. I wouldn't know. I am using Microsoft edge as my browser. I know Daz has had some issues with it. However I still have my old Explorer.
What are your system specifications?
Windows 10 64 bit. Intel Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) [email protected] 6GB RAM
That doesn't list a stand-alone GPU, though it might not depending on where you looked. Do you have any GPU options listed in the Advanced tab of Render Settings?
It says this...and it's CPU listed, not GPU. Not sure what a GPU is. What does it stand for?
That system is probably too short on resources to successfully run a simulation.
You need to check how much RAM your system has, I'd bet 8Gb or less. You might be able to get a simulation to run by increasing your RAM but I wouldn't count on it.
Also you should get the latest graphics driver for that chip. It should include the OpenCL driver that is needed to do dForce.

GPU is Graphics Processing Unit, more commonly known as a Graphics or Video card like below:
The "HD 630 Graphics" is the graphics chipset on the Motherboard.
...so why can't there be any other items in the same scene save for the figure and clothing item? That seems sort of backwards.
In general there can, but by default anything in the scene will be treated as a potential collision target (so the simulation will take longer with more), and of course adding more to the scene increases system load.
...so essentially you would have to set up and pose the character (without hair) by itself then merge it into scene to avoid the long sim times (particularly if you have older slower hardware). Sounds a lot like what I've had to do to get characters in a Bryce scene in order . That's a bit of a bother.
Guess I'll just stick to conforming as I often need to adjust poses as i'm building the scene.
Or make the unneeded items invisible to simulation via their parameters. Or, in the current beta, select the items you want to simulate (both the dynamic items and the things you want them to collide with) and use the Simulate Selected command.
I have had this DForce working before. I used it just fine for a while, then all of a sudden it just stopped working. I use a character with no hair or any other cloth or items. It just freezes as soon as I hit simulate. I have to close Daz and reopen it to use Daz. This really makes me sad because almost all clothes now are DForce. I can still use them, just can't make them fit right in poses. I guess I am stuck with this because I should not have to buy all this RAM and stuff just to make this work. It should be designed for normal systems. I only have 6 gigs of RAM but I have not had many problems with that. Some things I buy from the store won't render with Iray and I get a fatal error and Daz closes, but those are just a few things. I get by and I am pretty happy with it all except for this DForce thing. That makes me sad because more and more clothes and hairs are DForcing. I have one hair that was a real big problem for many but it DForced and laid down just fine here, so I don't know why it won't work now.
...+1
A sudden change does sound like a driver-related issue, though I'm afraid I can't offer any more concrete suggestions.
Which driver do you think I should update? I will.
The driver for the device you were previously able to select in the Advanced tab of Simulation Settings and/or the oen you now have selected (if different).
I checked all my drivers for Windows 10. My video driver and graphics driver say that I am using the most current up to date driver. I am going to select the other openCL device and see what that does. EDIT: OK, I selected it. I opened a DForce shirt by itself and I tried to simulate it. It worked. So now I will load a character, then the shirt and see if it simulates.EDIT: OK, that worked and in 1 minute and 25 seconds. So, now I will apply a pose to the character, then simulate it. EDIT: OK, that worked and under 3 minutes for a memorized pose. I think maybe it is fixed now. We will see. Thanks for the help Rich! You da man.
FYI If it was a DAZ issue, then it would affect everyone which it does not. Looks more like a lack of resources issue since your system is at the bare minimums for iray use. Try putting in a support ticket to see if they can help.
According to the screenshots you posted in the earlier part of the thread your system was using the CPU for dForce, not the GPU. Maybe try reinstalling intel openCL Runtime.
