Hey guys I am making my short film. Primarily in Maya. I want to credit the creators of the content eg... Stonemason, OutofTouch, Polish.. and others. Would you guys be ok with the monikers? Or would you like your real names credited?

I want to credit the creators of the content

*Disclaimer: These are just me thoughts on this and is no way answering for the aforementioned vendors.

The creators are not their government names. I would think if they wanted to use their government names, they would have.

AND secondly, what's the point of crediting them?

Just a general thank you? I mean, they are not sponsoring you- so no personal thanks are necessary. Using personal names sounds/seems like you have a relationship with them, which I assume you don't.

The best angle (MY OPINION, just my opinion)  is to use their Vendor/Store listed name as if someone watches your short film and wants to know WHERE you got your stuff(s) from, they can use your credits.

That's a better advert to help boost their sales and THAT would be a solid thank you.

    --------------

And as far as PAs go, you'd probably have to reach EACH ONE personally to get an answer.
And what happens when you get advanced and start kit-bashing or it isn't as obvious what came from what.

Are you going to say - dress by, but shoes by and hair by and belt by and, and, tree was taken from X set and skydome was a and , and the sparkly effect was from......

That's a true can of worms.

I'd rather see a long list of Vendor's names that scrolls at the end WITHOUT an exact point-by-point item by item chart.

    --------

But this is all just me opinions on the thing.

Oh and you should probably change the title of this thread to something that explains your point better.

I came in here looking to SEE your short film.

Like you had it done already, which would probably make this a better fit for the art section.

Something like "Should I credit the Vendors when I use their products (short film)?"

  • Speaking as a PA, credits are always welcomed - but I dont think you need to make it a big thing.. if you wish to credit someone, just use their PA name and the store.. job done.

    Good luck!

The vendor's name is a brand. Crediting it is fine. If you ever want to monetize the video, those credits are important to have included.

I usually run a credit roll for PA's at the end of my films mostly because I have had viewers aske me about the content i used.  Plus some Pa's have gifted or sponsored me in some of my animation projects which I am grateful for and happy to credit the people who have help me in getting the asset i needed to finish those projects.  so its a personal thing i think . Not always but most times I do a credit roll at the end of my film like in this one for just a sample of how i do mine.

"Viewers aske me about the content i used" - Ivy

It also happened with me. I just refer them to Dazstore instead of individual PAs. However some will instantly identify source of contents.

  • Cool cool : )  Thanks for the feedback all!
