I guess he may get to see the prophecized Seventh Seal for himself now...

Besides playing Emperor Ming in the 1980 Flash Gordon movie, King Osrick in Conan the Barbarian, and appearing in Game of Thrones, The Seventh Seal, etc. probably one of my favorite roles he did was as Dr Kynes in Dune...

He has 187 acting credits on IMDB, as he was fairly active for a number of years.  He passed yesterday at age 90.  I loved him in a number of the roles he chose to play.

"Fairly active for a number of years" understates it a bit. The Oracle of Bacon website currently lists him as the 12th most linkable actor, with an average of 2.96 connections to any other movie actor - and as the database used goes back to the dawn of cinema, a good score here is a fairly objective measurement of a long, prolific and high profile career - at present, only 26 actors have a score under three, and only one of those has a score under 2.9 (Christopher Lee).

(For comparison, Kevin Bacon himself isn't actually that high ranking - he's currently #545 on the list, with an average of 3.15 connections).

    RIP Max :(

  • This is indeed sad...that means there is no chance for a "Strange Brew" sequel.

In addition to all his great movie and TV roles I'll also have a special fondness for his work in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.

    RIP, Mr. von Sydow.

Figured you two would appreciate this.  Kevin Smith had this to say on Max's passing...

The legendary actor who gave us both Brewmeister Smith and Ming the Merciless has finally laid down his King in the eternal chess match. Farewell, Max von Sydow. You were in many much more respected movies than Strange Brew and Flash Gordon but I loved you for those flicks first.
