I know I can probably use daz and the beta but with all the content slowing down loads etc
I want to run one streamline version and another version that I can go do when I want to go through all the stuff
all the stuff = 10k items
Right now even on dual xeons it's boggy.

You can actually have two different content set-ups, includign separate databases, in one version of DS by creating new sets in the Content Directory Manager (Edit>Preferences>Conent tab) - just be aware that fiels you save under one set will not be in the database under the other.
current content set up is 50 or 60 folders sorted in to catagories and added into the content library.
Was thinking I could set up a quick version and a full version.
Wasn't sure if Daz would still quietly keep track of them in the background anyhow.

I opened a character file the other day and Daz had it's "OMG there's missing content, let me list it here and then I'll continue and let me list it again at the end so I rub it in your face.
Every last item that I had removed from my database were morphs that that character had never used (related to finding the weird stuff that messed up some of my shapes.
Which does bid the question why in the heck does say Julie (genesis) carry morphs for freak 5 in a character base I created using her morph?

In the middle of all this stuff, particularly when Daz is poking along, and I see no cpu usage, I wonder how much of the original code still executes things like lookups and indexing within the program or program to disk?
l use two libraries, one as built out of the box so I can use the (sic) smart content, the other setup in a sane way with materials and poses under the principle. Easy enough, just need to either copy over each new purchase from the standard setup. As easy is to change the destination address in downloader, but that also needs two seperate manifest folders, otherwise installer does not know it needs to process the new purchase again. Not that odd, we have two libraries anyway, Poser and Daz, not to mention the totally confusing third library "connect" nothing like complicating the issue even more! I seem to spend more time organising my files than I do using the things.
You can use links to organise the files, if you want them organised in a file-based view rather than in categories.
Find the file in a database view and drag it into the file folder in the Content Library that you want to place the link in. You cn also right-click on a file in the Connect Virtual folder and select Create Link for Asset..., then in the browser select the folder you want to use. Rob also has a script to do a whold folder or tree http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/specific_ui/create_asset_links/start
Thanks. Does "database view" mean Smart Content or something else?
Smart Contnet, or Categories or Products or the virtual Daz Connect folder in the Content Library.
I'm not having any luck with this so far. I select a prop in the Smart Content pane and drag it onto a folder name in the Content Library pane. It shows a + sign. But when I look at the files in that folder in the Content Library, the prop I added doesn't show up. Is is not possible to add a link to a folder in the Daz Connect library? If not, why did it show the + sign when I dragged it over there?
It was working for me last night, and I think that included going from the vrtual Daz Connect folder..
I'm not trying to go FROM the virtual Daz Connect folder, I am trying to put the link INTO the virtual folder of a product that was installed with Daz Connect. The prop I am trying to create the link for, is in a different (not connect) library. Does that scenario work for you?
User saved support asset (in Smart Content pane) -------- drag -------> Daz Connect virtual folder (in Content Library pane)
Ah, no - I don't think that will work. The Connect folder is an aggregate of all the /Data/Cloud/SKU folders, not a real location to which files or links can be dragged
Thanks for your continued attention. I think I'm still not being clear about what I am trying. I'm not dragging into the top level Connect folder. I'm dragging into a specific virtual folder of a single ptoduct's files in the content library pane.
Even that may not be well-defined, though - think of outfits and texture sets where the files from two products, in separate folders on disc, show as a single folder in the Daz Connect virtual folder.
Rob says the plus is a bug,
I would think he has logged it, but no harm in submitting a ticket to make sure it doesn't slip through the cracks if he was not in a position to do so.
Request #324394 DS 4.12 shows plus sign when dragging asset into Daz Connect virtual folder
