Question about Luthbel’s War Dog

I have no idea if this https://www.daz3d.com/war-dog-remastered-hd-for-genesis-3-male-s is supposed to represent a real country or time in history.... Does anyone know if this is purely made up or if it's depicting something real?

    Pretty universal I would say.

i would say more madeup than real. The style is somewhat like the Vietnam war era and more mercenary than actual uniform.

British Paras (although they actually wear maroon berets but are called the Red Berets smiley )

Although it's certainly drawing on various real world concepts, I wouldn't say that it's accurate to any major military unit. The camo pattern is similar to what many nations started to issue in the 1980s, but the rifle and grenades are far earlier variants - "pineapple" grenades are mostly WWII era!

I think the intent is to portray more of a mercenary unit.

I think the inspiration may have been the mercenaries depicted in the movie The Wild Geese. The mercenaries in that film wear the maroon berets worn by the British Army's Parachute Regiment, although -- looking at stills from the movie -- I see that their cap badges are all over the place; every single character seems to be wearing a different cap badge.

Incidentally, the main character in The Wild Geese was allegedly based on a real mercenary, Colonel Mike "Mad Mike" Hoare. Mike Hoare actually died just a few weeks ago, at the age of 101, which is no small accomplishment given the amount of dangerous and often heinous actions he was involved in (such as hijacking an Air India aircraft in the Seychelles when his coup attempt went south).

By the way, the photograph posted by @Fishtales does not show British "paras". That is a parachute unit, and they are wearing red (maroon) berets, but they're Italian carabinieri (paramilitary police) from the Tuscania regiment. I'm ashamed to say that I saw that the weapons were wrong (American-made M-4 carbines, I believe, rather than the SLR's or SA-80s used by British units) long before I registered that the cap badge, shoulder flashes and camo were not those worn by any British unit.

Also incidentally, my dad was in the Parachute Regiment; I had his old battledress jacket with his parachute "wings" on it hanging in my closet for a long time. Wonder whatever happened to that?

Edit: I missed the mention of the Carabinieri in bytescapes' post.blush

Anyway, I would love to see the War Dog outfit remade for Genesis 8.

It doesn't mean military like it used to be practically a guaranty of but it's similar.

Prince sings about a raspberry beret, the kind you find in a 2nd hand store, so they are fashion statements now more than a signal of particularly elite military prowess.

I would say the War Dog outfit the way it's depicted looks more like something a local hunter in the US might dress in to fit in with the others they hang around with. Gone are the days in the US when you saw someone in such clothing you could assumer they were in the military. Many hunters in US wear such clothing in public now. Also, it used to be against military regs in the US to be seen in public in battle dress fatiques rather than dress uniforms. It was like going to work in pajamas and considered so rude and unprofessional. The hunters would replace the beret with a camo baseball cap or toboggan (aka ski mask or beanie or stocking cap not a tobogan that is a runnerless sled used on the American frontier) and only wear such clothing in season. Now, you'll find people wear them as fashion year round. Many Army-Navy Surplus stores actually only have regular clothing that is themed in style but not actually military surplus.

Why?! 90% of items made for G3 will work perfectly on G8 by just changing the scene identifier and then fitting as usual (shoes being the exception). this outfit fits very well, I see no need for a G8 version, especially when there are so many oither military styles that have not been done yet.
