Everyday Household Items by Maclean now Iray/3DL but DIM download broken

HavosHavos Posts: 5,699

It seems this item has recently been updated by Maclean to now include separate DS and Poser items.

Previously this product only contained props using Poser format files (pp2), but now there are native DS versions including both Iray and 3DL versions.

However whoever set this up for DIM download seems to have got the files mixed up, as available for download is only the old legacy version (which was Poser files only) and the new Poser version. No DS version can be seen, or installed using DIM. All three files are available for Manual Download in the product library.

It seems a shame that Maclean went to all this effort to modernise these very useful props, and most people that use DS will never see them.

Maclean, if you see this, please nudge the relevant Daz person to fix the DIM download settings.

I have not checked to see if Daz Connect is suffering the same problem.

By the way all the promo pics have been updated as well to show the new Iray versions.

I submitted a help request yesterday about the DIM error on this product update. I ended up installing it manually from my Product Library.

    Request #323287

DIM does not have the correct files for SKU 18297 update

maclean updated Everyday Household Items. The DIM files for Everyday Household Items (SKU 18297) seem to be incorrect.

DIM shows only two files for this SKU:
    1) Everyday Household Items - Package date 2/5/2014, so not updated
    2) Everyday Household Items Ps - Package date 2/26/2020, so the Poser package is updated

The DIM log shows this error: "Remote Duplicate: 18297-1 : Everyday Household Items".

Manual Download from the Account page shows 3 files for this SKU:
    1) Everyday Household Items
    2) Everyday Household Items Ps
    3) Everyday Household Items Ds

Please fix DIM so it will install this product update correctly.

Thanks for the heads-up. Someone mentioned this in another thread, but I never got a final answer as to whether it was just a glitch or what.

I updated Everyday Household Items a few days ago to have 3 separate versions, including a full Iray version. The whole pack also has improved geometry and textures, plus a couple of new props and some new morphs. The update is free to anyone who owns it.

I'll contact DAZ and tell them there's a problem, but since it's the weekend, it may take a couple of days.

    Thanks again for flagging this.

    Great thanks.

I am a big fan of your Everyday series, and I do appreciate you taking the time to update them to proper DS props and Iray.

  • So if we download manually that is the correct version? Because a weird thing happened when I did that. I downloaded the files:

    Everyday Household Items

    Everyday Household Items DS

and then copied them to the DIM download folder. Then I ran the DIM offline like I always do. But then the DIM mysteriously deleted the file Everyday Household items, and only installed Every Household Items DS. It didn;t merge the files, it just deleted it without my intervention. I've never seen that happen before.

That didn't happen to me. Nothing was deleted, but DIM completely ignored Everyday Household Items DS, it only saw the legacy and poser versions.

great !  will any of the other stuff be converted? like the groceries?

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 27,474

I downloaded and unzipped each of the three packages and copied the contents to the correct folder in my library. That works. DIM is messed up for this product, even if you copy the zips over manually, I think. DIM has the same name on two of the packages. See my post above. DIM log shows an error about Duplicate: 18297-1.

I checked out my copy in DS and it shows updated 21 Feb 2020, and installed on 27 Feb 2020. I found Iray and 3DL versions of the props and materials.

@daveso, I have Everyday Groceries and Everyday Groceries 2 and both have Iray and 3DL files.

Why wouldn'y you just use the Iray Uber Surface Base shader on them for Iray rendering? The texture maps would be the same.

Surface settings may not be optimum.

In the set that has just been updated there is a lot of metal and plastic in the props and these are not solely texture based, in fact some will have no textures at all. These will look a lot better with the correct Iray shader rather than one that was just autoconverted to Iray Base.

Thanks, Barbult for putting in a ticket. I've mailed DAZ about the problem, so it should get fixed pretty soon.

@Daveso - The original Everyday Groceries was updated to Iray when the newer pack (Everyday Groceries 2) was released. (The reason these older packs need updating is that there was no Iray when I made them).

I'm updating my older products whenever I can (I'm working on Everyday Cosmetics right now), but I would like to point out that I'm not just adding an Iray version. The props in each updated version are mostly rebuilt, with improved geometry and textures, plus extra morphs. Also, in most packs, I've added several new props. The Iray materials are also quite different, especially glass, liquids and metal, so far better than auto-conversion.

DAZ tell me this has now been fixed. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Folks, you know these updates are a lot of work for MaClean. A nice thank-you would be to buy another of their products.
I really appreciate the effort after another PA told me that it wasn't worth their time to fix an imperfect product.

Great to know these are being updated!

It appears to be fixed in DIM now. I'm not sure I can accurately evaluate whether the DIM package is correct, since I already installed it manully from my product library.
