Does anyone use X-Frog?

Just wanted to ask if anyone uses X-Frog to make plants - it seems a bit aged and I wonder if it would run on Win 10 and are there better plant modelers out there? Some of the samplers I have are really nice.

I've a number of their libraries on my other system which is Win10 Pro. I primarily use them in Lightwave. Had to re-assign some maps for older assets with the new version of LW though. Maps intended for Clip get loaded into Transp, that sort of thing. Once you get the technique down for that & save, you should be good. I think all the map types are there to make PBR surfaces.
Don't think I've tried them in DS though.
Thanks @Doc Acme. I tried E-on's Vue & Plant Factory - but in order to use theirs you pay a hefty $75 per month
. So I was thinking of buying the software and was wondering what artists here use. Most of the X-frog samplers I purchased here are really very stunning in Bryce.
I own Modo rather than Lightwave but did read on their Modo's forums that exporting the xfrog plants as a .lwo would allow them to load faster.
you can use Vue Creator for $20 a month. Same plants
I went ahead and purchased xfrog - they had it for $99 - I wanted the ability to create and export my own .obj plants. @daveso - the creator version of vue @ $19 I don't believe allows you to export the mesh file (.obj) - I may be wrong - but I am going by this chart:
Vue plants you cant use commercially.
I do actually own xfrog tho. Its um... a little bit difficult to learn. And the UI smacks of windows 98 lol If you can get past all that, tho, its not a terrible app (but moving to a new pc will result in your serial not working... and u have to hound them to give a new one) And yes, u can use what u make in there commercially.
Oh wow really - Thanks for the heads up @IgnisSerpentus! I ended up having to hound them just to get the key
- its tuesday and I bought it on Friday - well not too bad - but wow - so it is contingent on your machine
.
Yeah, it is a little clunky like you said - Win 98 like - but that is ok, I am used to working in dossy like software apps at my job--I was worried it wasn't going to work on Windows 10 but it loaded up just fine. It does have a lot of precision - I am just learning how to do a tree trunk - nice how you can twist it up with all of the settings. Also, I have noticed if you are not careful it will blow up Bryce with the level of polygons you make. I noticed they used to have Xfrog tune which appears to reduce the LOD count - going to try the DAZ decimator on my plants. It seemed some features did not work in the demo for me like the texturing - but works great now.
This is from my product library, the description of one of the products, in case anyone is wondering what these are. I bought all of them in 2017 from Daz.
"This product features 60 billboard props of japanese trees, coming from the much popular and praised XfrogPlants Japan library.
The props are in Poser 4 PP2 format and can be used in Poser 4, Poser Pro Pack, Poser 5, Poser 6 and above. You can also export them from Poser for use in other 3D software products such as Vue, Carrara, Mojoworld, Bryce and more*.
Each panel is made with a professionally rendered image, 800x800 pixel size, applied to 1-polygon panels, all pre-set, so you can use them right away to abundantly populate your scenes and ecosystems."
Yeah Bryce actually adds poly to things when importing them. Idk why, but I can only assume it's so the meshes look really refined. And yeah sadly, it's node locked. It took me forever to get a new key (and I had to get a little hot tempered about it, even) But yeah you can def get some cool trees from it.
You mentioned you use modo... there's a new tree system in that as well that looks nice
All the orders I ever made with them, you had the option of any formats. I'd just get both .lwo and .obj versions so I was covered.
