Hi all,

I am trying to modify Modern Rustic House to fit my needs.

I have moved a wall more to the outside, to make a room bigger and now I have two floor types in my bedroom.

I have used the geometry editor to create a new Surface for the extended floor for my bedroom. My plan was to copy the properties of the existing bedroom floor to the extended bedroom floor so they can look the same.

Unfortunately the two surfaces appear to be of different types and I'm not sure what to do.

I know the type of surface the extended bedroom floor is, I have worked with that before. I have no idea what type of surface the original bedroom floor is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

When copying the shader, did you try to manually type over the seperate entries, or by selecting the surface of the original floor, pressing ctrl-c, then selecting the surface of the extended floor and pressing ctrl-v?

Supposedly, they're both iray shaders, so the ctrl-c - ctrl-v method should work. (can also be done by rightclicking the entry for the surface in the tree view, selecting copy and paste respectively)

I tried with right click copy selected surface, right click paste to selected surface.

Apparently, because they are different types, it doesn't know how to copy.

  • The new surface defaults to whatever renderer you have selected.

Anyhow, you open the content library panel to where the shader presets are, select the material you want to change in the surface tab, and double click the shader from the content panel. Then you can copy and paste from the old to the new.

It tells you what shader it is just under the 'editor' title in the surfaces tab.

I think the iray uber base is the default iray shader for iray.

Thank you! That was awesome and simple. I learn something new every day.

As can be seen from the screenshots a well, the original shader was Mahogany Floorboards, the new one being indeed Iray Uber Base.

  • So you just selected the uber base surface and dragged over or double clicked the mahogany floorboards? Or did you convert the mahogany floorboards to iray uber and then copy/paste? The copy and paste action will drop the reflect texure because it doesn't know where to put it. The mdl is a no fuss material and the iray uber gives you more control.

Since the Mahogany Floorboards was the original one, I converted the iray uber to mahogany.

Could I have done the other way around but still kept the mahogany properties?
