Footwear

I'm continually flabbergasted how some shoe products, particularly sneakers, are incompatible with SOCKS. It wouldn't be as much of a problem if the shoes and/or the socks had BASIC adjustment morphs for the foot area that take this into consideration. Is there some kind of added difficulty I'm unaware of in making a pair of shoes that fit over socks or socks that fit under shoes? Sure, they come with FBMExpand All, but I would hardly consider that a helpful "adjustment morph".

Can anyone recommend sports sneakers for G8 F & M that have adjustment morphs specifically for characters wearing socks underneath?

If the PA created the shoes and socks were not part of the package, more than likely it didn't dawn on them to allow for socks being worn since they didn't create the socks. A PA can only account for a limited amount of use scenarios, primarily those uses they would have.

  • I would expect the socks that come with the shoes to work together, but the question is will they work with other socks? Also, does it have an inside mesh that might end up poking through? Another sneaker-type shoe I tried was Trail Runner 5 sneakers for G8F and it appears to have an inner mesh which can poke through the outer mesh when fitting to a G8 base. So the problem in some cases ends up not being the socks themselves poking through, but rather the inner-mesh of the shoe. It also has a major UV map error with regards to the logo.

Have you tried adding a smoothing modifier to the shoes, setting collision to the socks?

Otherwise hiding the geometry for the part of the socks inside the shoes may work.

The shoes already have a smoothing modifier applied to them & enabled after adding the shoes to the character. Yes, that was the second thing I tried when I noticed the color of the socks poking through the shoes. I don't think hiding the geometry on the socks will help, as I've said it appears to be the inner mesh of the shoes poking through.

  • When using the smoothing modifier, the shoe's inner material may poke thru the outer material.  If that happens, then make the inner material invisible via "Cutout Opacity".

A push modifier (don't use too much) might help, if the shoes don't have an "Expand All" morph.  You could also play with the scaling on the foot and toes.
