Do DAZ characters live in a different world?

I've been a bit distressed by the wardrobe available to male and female characters. I don't recall seeing anyone wearing the types of outfits that are classified in the Contemporary category. Maybe those clothes are worn by people in "big cities," like New York City or Los Angeles?! I have the same question when it comes to haircuts. Yes, I'm pushing 70 years old. But I wear the same clothes I've always worn. Depending on the weather, I wear t-shirts & shorts, or T-shirts and jeans. Lately, I've been feeling lazy, and wear sweat pants... It's easier than wearing jeans because they're more comfy. Clothing variety is another issue with me. It's not good enough just to apply different textures to shirts or slacks. Two Seniors in a scene look like they're wearing the same clothes, even if the textures are different.

Normally I'm right there with ya, but you can only make so many tees, shorts and jeans before they all look alike.

need the ultimate morphing jeans, tshirt and trackie dacks,

if Dforced the wrinkles would be in different places enlightened

  • There's plenty of casual outfits for Genesis 8 (both male and female) that fit the description of RL casual, tees, jeans, sweats and I'll say this as someone who has spent three generations of Genesis whining and complaining how we need more everyday stuff.

Kitbashing however is the key if you're looking for variety and original combos, maybe try combining different pants with tops from a different pack and you can get outstanding results for what you are looking for, as little as accessories can make all the difference :)

Thanks for your comments. Maybe I haven't expressed myself clearly and/or forgot something. Blame it on old age, and sleep apnea. In addition to tee-shirts, jeans shorts & sweats, I wear long & short sleeve buttoned shirts,  Hawaiin shirts, Henley shorts (short & long sleeve), a travel vest, spring jacket, winter jacket, etc. I've wanted to illustrate a humble short story I wrote. The story takes place around Christmas day. I can't find a winter coat for my characters. Maybe it would help if some or all of us could do some renders to show what we're talking about. I'll do some renders of my characters this weekend. I'm usually pretty frantic and busy around the first of the month.

I remain very grateful for the great male & female Senior Citizen characters and clothing that was released a few months ago. And I'm very grateful to have a relatively easy way to bring my characters and stories to life.

valzheimer, I added just about everything to my wishlist. I already have the OOT wardrobe. I believe Marlin Fingle and friends were done with Genesis 3, And you gave me a link for some Genesis 3 clothes. My newer Senior Citzen cast are done with Genesis 8 Male & Female. You got me covered there! Thanks again.

Angelreaper1972 thanks for your comment. As a Senior Citizen who's made his fair share of mistakes, I've learned that I get better results from polite and constructive criticism. Beyond that, there are certain, "finer" considerations that I still struggle with.

Daz World is indeed a very different place.  Not only is the Female to Male Ratio over 2 to 1, but there be Centaurs, Reptillians, Aliens, and other fantastic creatures about...

Plus, Dazworld has a lot of beautiful people.  Sure, there are a few outliers, but for the most part we have a lot of Adonises and Aphrodites floating about.  And don't even get me started on the ethnicity ratios!

Leather and Latex outfits seem to be fairly popular in Daz World.

It might be a fun place to live though, as long as you can avoid getting eaten by Dragons and whatnot...

On a more serious note, and more to your point, yeah there isn't a lot of what some of us might consider 'more typical' attire.  Of course, modeling a sweatshirt you may have picked up at Walmart isn't as glamourous and sexy as modeling some skimpwear armor with high heels.  The PA's like to model what they are interested in, and the 'typical' stuff may end up going by the wayside in the process.  Note the High Heel ratio for females...

I'm reasonably sure that you checked poserdazfreebies.mirahaze.org for some freebiies, and the other 'usual' freebie sources.  The more 'simple' stuff often ends up as a freebie somewhere, particularly if you don't mind autofitting between generations.

To your point, though, I just did a search for coat or jacket Genesis 8 Male on Google, and not a whole lot came up. The Ice Vacation outfit came to mind, but I don't think you were looking for a 'ski slope' oriented jacket.  It does have a winter jacket for males and females at least!  There are a few leather jackets, but I'm guessing that's not what you had in mind.

We could definitely use more coats and winter jackets but alas it's understandable that there is a shortage of those because they tend to be more detailed, layered and take a bit longer to rig and make to look good, at least that's an excuse I imagine is out there for such stuff. In all my time rendering I think I have only seen total of one hooded paddy coat for females of the type usual gals would wear out in autumn/warmer winter and that was way back for V4. However, most artists will do pinups, hence the demand for skimpier stuff will always exist, so I'm happy this generation at least has some more of the casual stuff as compared to before :)

Just a few words before I get my tired self to bed. I've found DAZ3D to be my best source of quality content that has helped me express my own often humorous self. I've been a DAZ customer since they were known as Zygote. I have no other relationship that comes even close to that point. My marriage lasted 5 years. valzheimer, it might take me a few months to buy some of that stuff. I'm trying to stabilize my finances.

tj-1ca9500b I remember back in the days before DAZ went "g-rated." "Naked Vickies and Michaels" in a temple were the rage. In those early days I couldn't afford to buy clothes for my DAZ people. I posted a picture that contained several "naked Vickie's" in a temple. They all had silly poses and facial expressions. I got a very big laugh! I must say I prefer that my characters wear clothes!

    @ Ron

I came to Daz fairly late in the game, only a couple of years ago.  But based on how a lot of the V3/V4 era outfits look, I'm guessing it was a much sexier time back then...

tj_1ca9500b Yeah, the times were wilder. I was newly married at the time, and my (ex) wife hated the naked ladies. I've really found it easier to work with characters who are dressed. That way I can share my humor or weirdness without offending anyone.

It's always been a sort of weird world and not supposed to represent reality anyway. Reality only kicks in if a LEA find I have a Growing-Up character that I haven't put clothes on yet in my runtime which in my country could lead to serious charges and possibly time on the rock pile. In that case claiming that I lived in a "different world" wouldn't stand up too much in court. Be careful and stay safe, make sure all your people have clothes on all the time, even if you don't render them, especially if their apparent age is questionable.

If I were to post pictures of the people I see on the streets here in more rural Germany, there would be about no resemblance at all to the clothes seen here on DAZ. It might be seen in some hipper parts of big cities like Berlin or on Clubbers in Frankfurt, Munich or Hamburg... mayhaps

I often think that many of the clothmaking PA's missed to get a job in the fashion industry and now make up for it on DAZ. Quite okay by me, as long as I sometimes find stuff I can use.

And getting comments deleted is something one gets used to quite easily. One just has to remember that there's no free speech on forums and that forum moderators set the rules by their own moral and other standards.

My latest interest has been with the Senior Citizen characters such as Floyd 8, Mabel 8, etc. I tend to work a bit, get frustrated, and walk away for a few weeks or months. I'm also forgetful. That's why I really appreciate everyone's input. I am totally thankful that such an abundance of content is provided by DAZ and the Content Creators. Without Daz, I'd be a frustrated, bumbling artist. My "hand-drawn" art is primitive at best.

I am going to answer that here.  Moderators at Daz remove posts that offend against the Daz 3d Forum ToS. Moderators do not work unilaterally,  we are the Daz Forum Team, and we work as a team.  Every post removal is debated and a quorum agreement has to be reached before it is removed from sight.   We have quite a collection of them in the vault,  as they are always available if you want them back.

  • well like I said there is a wide variety of styles in Australia fashion wise even ladies in their 70s+ wear high heels, mini skirts and open blouses even shop workers and others do also girls seen 8 year olds well non teens wearing leather minis and high heels, then we got I guess you'd call them rednecks and those in trailer parks, hipsters or whatever you call them like on those reality shows that have those tans. Oh coloured hair pinks, purples extra again all ages, heaps of piercings and tatts again all ages and all kinds of hair styles, one friend works at supermarket has a kind long mohawk sides of her head shaved she's in her forties. As for me well long hair, when out wear jeans a tshirt, around home tracksuit pants and tshirt, and pjs. My tshirts mostly are heavy metal/rock, fantasy/pinup, cartoon, movie.

So my art well always drawn sculpted monsters and ladies so fantasy pinup and when in art school wanted to combine photos of people in fantasy outfits with my creatures but hiring paying models plus all the costumes and other bits and pieces very time consuming and expennsive so finding daz and what itoffers has been great for me

Daz world seems more real than vintage Hollywood world to me.
