I was editing a post in the forums and had only the old Edge on my computer. I wanted the ability to copy the URL of an image on a web page by right clicking & selecting copy image URL from the menu. The old Edge didn't have that so I searched to download Chrome & Edge gave me a link to download a new version of Edge based on Chrome that does have the typical Chrome features. It also gave a link to download Chrome but that seemed unnessary. I don't install SW as charity to support multi-billion dollar businesses.
Not a big deal but now I can use Edge and be essentially using Chrome at the same time. One less company collecting data to resell is always good (although MS does much less of that then Google or Amazon or FB already anyway).

interesting. thanks for heads up
It's based on Chromium not Chrome. Chromium is an open source that forms the basis of Chrome, but Chrome has significant additional code added.
After trying a few Chromium based browsers I've finally returned to Firefox. There's one called Brave which I tried for a while because it has Chromecast support but it also has a nag screen for their earn-points-for-ads scheme. I hate being nagged. I mention Chromecast support because I don't have broadcast TV and can only watch streaming services via my Chromecast device but many of the streaming apps now have built-in Chromecast support. I didn't see it mentioned on the page for the new Edge, however.
Well, close enough. I'm actually liking the new Chromium based Edge in how it works & the GUI better than old Edge, new Chrome, and new Firefox (even though I'll alway like the Firefox logo best).
