Musicians from THE THIRD DIMENSION!

I was curious about what gear Wendy used to create the music for her videos (is it a vocoder or speech to text program). Then I though, hey, let's have a thread for all the musicians here to talk about our gear and maybe how we've combined our 3D and music talents together.

I recently used Wav Pad Sound Editor, which is free and has text to voice and, after some minor adjustments, got an okay sentence. What I don't know is how to use this file in Daz with animator or puppeteer. The tutorials out there are not informative enough, as well as some has either video to blurry or sound is mumbled, it's hard to see and hear what is being done to learn from it. Web pages are not much better with less information then is needed.

Are you using soft synths with a keyboard controller or do you step sequence the music?

melody assistant is like a sequencer but analogue.
I put notes on a stave and "write" music, either humming (I have relative but not perfect pitch) or playing my Roland Gaia synth or casio keyboard.
never liked using midi patch cord to do it prefer playing note without pc imput then placing it on my stave manally like a pencil and manuscript paper like I used to.
I do play the synth and record sound through usb line in via a mixer and audacity to. wav but not digital.

I use Sonar 8.5 & Sonar X2 (still adjusting to the UI changes), with way too many softsynths to list here. My main controller is an M-Audio Keystation Pro my wife bought a few Christmases ago. I also have a bunch of hardware equipment, but since I've moved my stuff to a different part of the house, I can't hook it up until I put more outlets in.

I haven't done any music to use with any 3d art yet, but I'm sure I will someday. I just need to find the time to get better with the art.

I've never been much of a soft synth, or DAW fan. I still use dedicated hard disk digital recorders and physical synths. I think part of it is I had the idea of being disenfranchised from my gear because of a computer upgrade that no longer maintains compatibility with the older software.

I really only use my computer as an editor/librarian for my synths and samplers and for midi sequencing and the rest is all done on hardware.

Of course hardware gear does have it's downside. Recording gear takes on the property of gas and expands to fill all available space.

Nice gear porn! Your mention of gas reminds me of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome); I hope to have room someday to set up all my hardware, but at the moment a lot of it is piled up in the basement, some (mostly the stuff I use for live performance) is in the garage, and my poor Hammond is in storage. Of all the hardware, I'd really like to get my old analog synths set up; gotta love the knobs!

I bought the Arturia Microbrute primarily to use as a MIDI-to-CV converter for my Moog MG-1. It was like buying a Kenton Pro and getting a free analogue synth and sequencer thrown in.

I also have this really nice Horner Pianet-T electric piano which really rocks live when played through a guitar multi effect pedal.

The Korg Microstation I bought when I had a commission to compose the music for a play and I wanted a small, portable music workstation I could take to a coffee shop and sit in a booth and use for composing but I've found it's a great live keyboard when I'm part of a several act show and need to set up and tear down super quick. I've even done shows with it just sitting on my lap. Here I am playing it at a burlesque show with my friend Dave Gould, the world's greatest louist.

Given my big meaty ham-fists I'm surprised the micro-keys haven't given me more trouble but sometimes it's really handy to be able to be able to smack out a really funky jazz chord where each hand almost spans 2 octaves.

I've also really been digging the Korg Kaossilators. The original Kaossilator is actually my favourite for performing live. I use a really long patch chord then run around through the audience without waving it all over the place and playing leads with the theramin sound and people are really amazed with it.

I have a Liberation, which is basically the same electronics as the MG-1, but it doesn't have any CV inputs, only outputs. It's still a nice-sounding instrument, though. If you like analog gear, I just read that Korg is going to be doing a reissue of the ARP Odyssey in September. This could be interesting.

I have been playing with savihost trying to find which VST plugins work with it and which do not
I got a casio keyboard one to work!

VL1 is a freeware emulator of the world famous classic calculator annex mini-synthesizer from the eighties made by Casio. VL1 is not a sample player, it is a real emulator that emulates the original hardware. All sounds are generated by software equivalents of the original circuits and the calculator actually works. This also means that ADSR sound programming is fully functional! VL1 was written in honour of Casio’s little VL-TONE that has given me many hours of pleasure and fun
    polyvalens

I will not post the link as chrome blocks it so kinda concerned, was ok when I got it from the site cleared by AVG safesearch a while back

also been doing some 3D animation, need to work on music for my electric strings!

    What a fun thread!

I haven't combined my music with 3D yet, but I use Cubase and I also have an old Maschine MK 1. Tons of VST instruments and a number of analog instruments such as two violins, three guitars, four basses, several MIDI controllers, a few horns, Roland and Korg keyboards (which also serve as MIDI controllers), and a V-Drum kit! I also have a native American style wooden flute, a recorder, a few djembes and a rainstick! Still have (and sometimes play) my old trombone from 4th grade and my nylon string guitar from when I was about 13. I'm an avid pawnshop shopper, so I've picked up a few odds and ends too, including a beautiful LA Sax tenor sax and a few of the instruments listed above.

Yeah the Moog Rogue, MG-1, Taurus and Liberation are all basically the same engine under the hood with different mods added. The Liberation is like the great grand daddy of Keytars.

Speaking of Keytars.... I also own a Casio AZ-1 which once belonged to Thomas Dolby.

I still remember the day I finally scored a Casio VL-1 in a thrift store. There was much rejoicing while my boyfriend looked at me going "do you really need another keyboard?"

The answer is always yes. Yes I do.

Now I'd love to find a Mattel Synsonics Drum Machine in a thrift store. It's gotta be in a thrift store or garage sale. Buying one of Ebay spoils the thrill of the hunt for me. Guitarist in my band has one which I've sampled but I'd love to have one all of my own.

I think the audio in the animate track is only there as a guide to help you sync animation and not the final product. I've always exported my animation as a series on images which I then turn into video in Adobe Premiere and that's where I add my final sound mix. I've never exported video from Daz so I don't know how well it maintains the integrity of the audio track.
