Interesting problems fitting clothes to custom model

Hi everyone, I have an interesting issue with a custom model I have been working which is based on Genesis 8 plus morphs.

The problem is that for some clothing items that fit tight to the chest area, the fitting process is adding a bulge over the chest bone.  The odd part is that this only happens with some clothing items and not others.  I am trying to create a new top at the moment and am having the same issue when I fit it.

Currently using 12.1.4 (beta) but have had the same issue with all versions I have used with this model including 11.

Attached are swimsuits and tanktops from the store the first two without the issue, the following three with the issues.

Hoping someone can suggest something?

Regds,

Have you tried to compare the weightmaps for a clothing that fits with one where the clothing doesn't fit properly?

I thought it was a problem with my model but have just applied the same clothing to gen 8 base and shrunk the breasts and the same problem is there, you just can't see it with full size breasts.

Thanks felis.  I've only used weight maps on dforce clothes.  None of these have dforce applied.  Are there weight maps applicable for non dforce fitting and how do I access them?

If you select Node Weigth Brush and open Tool settings.

Then expand the bones in the clothing and select a bone. And in the Tool settings select General weigths. Then you should see the weigth map in the viewport for that bone, i.e. which bones that affects which area.

    Edit: added image for illustration.

Thanks Felis.  Learn something every day.... Weight maps look similar for lower chest region in that they have more weight between and under the breasts as per your clip which I assume means the cloth will move more to fit the body? The difference seems to be that in the clothes that aren't working, the weight maps on different bones overlap each other ie the problem area is covered by three wieght maps only one of which has weight added to the depression.  Could this interfere with the proper fitting?  I've tried to tweak the maps but have one question, how do you get daz to refit after changing the map.  I've tried the fit to function and transfer utility but neither seem to be revaluating the maps? Struggling to find a good tutorial or forum note on weight mapping clothes.

To better show the problem I have loaded gen 8 female and applied OSA Swimsuit then using morphs have flatened the breasts. This is how it looks:-

Finding good tutorials for Daz Studio is a hassle.

I am no expert in weight mapping.

But an area will often be affacted by more than one bone. If you add weight to one bone it is subtracted from the others influencing it.

And if a clothing is already fitted, you should be able to see the result immediately in the viewport, if you change the weights.

I use custom dial spun girls all the time.  One thing you can try, and this will vary from outfit to outfit, is to manually position the clothing to the character and do either a static or animated drape with dForce.  You can adjust the scale of the  outfit before drapping.  This solution will test your patience I admit but its very useful.

Weight maps don't have any influence on the way morphs are projected from the figure into the clothing. Tweaking the weight maps may help you when the clothing shows ugly creases when you pose a body part but the issue you are showing here is caused by a morph.

I'm quite familiar with this issue, it happens with all morphs and shapes that have smaller breasts than the base shape. Realistic-looking shirts are not skin-tight between the breasts. When the breast size is dialled back the part over the breasts follows that morph but the center part doesn't (because the figure doesn't change in that area, only the breasts get smaller). The result is this "bulge" - it looks like a bulge compared to the small breasts while in reality it is the original shape of the shirt in that area that didn't follow the breast morph.

You need to fix that in an external modeler and import it back in as a morph, or you could use a DFormer or the new Mesh Grabber to fix it inside DS. Then you can save it as a morph that can be dialed in as required.

  • Products like Fit Control will apply morphs to the chest area to fix that.

Thanks everyone.  Seems it is a well known issue.  Another thread here https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/244336/chest-bulge-between-breasts
