Windows 10 Thumbnail Size Too Small

Hi Everyone,

I just migrated Daz Studio from  a Windows 7 machine  to Windows 10 Home. Something I noticed is that the native “extra large “ thumbnail size in Windows 10 is noticeably smaller than Windows 7. This would be for viewing picture folders such as finished renders. How do people cope with this? Is there a hack or third party software that could mitigate this?

    This may not help everybody but I use the "Adobe Bridge" viewer/launcher that came with my Photoshop5 to view folders holding images.  The adjustment control at the bottom of the window lets you quickly and easily vary the size continually from postage stamp to nearly half screen size.  Very helpful for scanning a large selection or zooming in on just a few at a time.  Now it's probably still available through Adobe subscriptions.  But there are probably free apps that do similar resizing tricks.

    Oops, just realized you may have been asking specifically about DAZ icons within DAZ Studio. surprise  Nope, the "Bridge" won't help you there.  Perhaps generic screen magnification? 

    I too have sometimes wished that DAZ Studio had variable size icons in the content library.  I also have clamored for the ability to sort the icons by date rather than alphabet.

    If you mean Windows Explorer you can change the size using ctrl + scroll.  IMO max size is pretty large, 245x245 px.

    There was a release build of windows with thumbnails of up to 750ish iirc. No clue what happened to it though.

    Would be great if they came back.

    There are also alternatives to Windows Explorer with built in image viewers and other stuff, personally I use Directory Opus, it has a ton of features and the interface can be configured exactly like you want it.

    Thanks everyone. Yes, it is Windows Explorer that I am working in. The ctrl+scroll still is not large enough. I render assets, like hair, in a neutral scene and like looking at screen full of thumb nails to pick out what I want. It’s that the thumbnails need to be large enough. What I found that might work is this thing called the magnifier. It magnifies the whole screen almost unlimited. It is in the Windows setting menus.

    In that case, just use XNView MP - https://www.xnview.com/en/xnviewmp/ - Not only can you view massive thumbnails, you can also scroll through your images in full screen to see them in more detail.  And it shows you your files as they are in Windows Explorer.  You can also right click any image or folder in XNVMP and choose open in exlporer and it pops open that folder in explorer.  On top of all that, it works in Windows, OSX and Linux so if you need to use it on anotehr computer without windows, you can!  remember to set your file associations to XNVMP so that it opens to view images when they are selccted in Explorer.  Trust me, its a very handy viewer and minor editor/converter.

    Don't know how large you need thumbnails/icons, but what I do is, right click within folder > view > extra large icon, which is large enough for my viewing.

    You can also select image/thumbnail drag drop into brower, Google chrome, Firefox etc.... select new tab, drag/drop, then magnify, in Firefox I magnify to 300%

    Yeah, I also use XnView (the full converting version) now and then.  It's very quick and easy for fast conversions for some of the newer or rare formats that my old version of Photoshop doesn't handle.  But since I always have Photoshop and the Adobe Bridge running I use the Bridge for viewing image folders.  Until it chokes on a format then I use XnView to convert it to something less shocking to my system.  Great tool XnView.yes  Just be careful when looking for a copy of it.  Get it from a reputable source.enlightened
