Superhero XRay vision?

OK, so I have my hero and the bad guy is hiding inside the building. Superguy engages his XRay super-power and suddenly the building has an oval of semi-transparency revealing the baddie cowering behind the wall. Easy to do - just plug in an oval mask in the Cutout Opacity channel of the wall surface.
But now he needs to use his XRay vision to see through multiple objects (multiple surfaces), one in front of another and so on (maybe crates or boxes or a truck or trees, etc.). Ideally there would be some kind of opacity filter on the camera - like a vignette effect but for transparency - but I don't think that exists (or is even possible). So how to achieve this? All I can come up with is rendering at full opacity and then again at semi-transparency and then blending the layers in a photo editor. If anyone can tell me that this is possible to render directly in DAZ Studio I'd be very happy as it would save me a lot of time. I can see my hero needing to use this super power many times.

In a render I created for a contest here

I used a method that could possibly work for your situation. Simply make multiple renders (in my case it was 2 and a screenshot)
The first of your superhero and building, the next would be the boxes/crates/whatever in between and the final would be the guy hiding.
Take the first render into photoshop/gimp/whatever and cut out an oval/circle/cone of the areahe is looking through. Then in the 2nd render of the crates and boxes, cut out the same shape, but a bit smaller hole than the first. Then layer all 3 images.
Yes - that's exactly the method I came up with too. I was hoping there might be a magic camera filter that would render it in one take within DAZ Studio.
Using iray, the selection plane might work. Not sure though because I've not really used it except to hide things off camera.
