DAZ not handling memory too well

I am curious. Why is it when I reboot my machine, load my scene and render it renders 3 times faster, than it is when I render a scene I've opened a rendered a few times already. It is like the memory isn't optimized or freed up until I reboot the computer.

Has anyone experienced this?

  • Never to that extent but in sessions where I am setting up many scenes, running test renders rinse and repat I've had DS flat crash on me. You should make sure any render preview windows are closed. DS thinks you might want to restart any render where you leave the preview window open so it holds all the textures, geometry and state data in VRAM.

I close the preview window, since it is very memory intensive. But the difference is actually pretty shocking. It makes me wonder why the software is not freeing up memory like it should.

Rather than reboot your whole computer, how does it perform if you just close Daz Studio and reopen it? That usually frees GPU RAM for me.

Almost the same for me, except that when I close preview windows, Studio clears GPU Vram back to the pre render value in a few seconds,  On occasions when I close Studio, CPU Ram is usually cleared within 30 seconds, but newver more than a minute. GPU Vram is cleared immediately in these cases.

Yes, & DAZ Studio 4.12.0.16 and prior would also fill up my SSD system drive's swap  with DAZ Studio created content. I'd have to exit DAZ Studio & reboot to get my disk space back! However, in the 3 tests I've down with DAZ Studio 4.12.0.40 that problem seems fixed.
