Quick question: installing the same product twice in two different content directories?

Like the subject says, is it possible to install a purchased product in two different locations? I don't see a way to do it in DIM, but maybe there's a workaround I haven't found yet. It's not urgent, but what I wanted to do is to install a lot of content onto a separate hard drive and *not* manually sort it in order to compare the automatic organization and smart content to my own manual organization.

Thanks for any information.

  • With DIM you could change the CMS directory and Manifests folder to get a clean slate, then swap back and forth as needed. DS allows setting up multiple content directory sets in the Content Directory Manager dialogue, each (potentially) with its own database, which you can then switch between - but you'd still need to chnage the Manifests folder manually if installing through DIM rather than Connect.

It's been so long, I honestly don't remember how to install content through Connect. So content can be installed twice without changing the manifest location if you install one with DIM and the other with Connect?

Yes - but if you use the same database then the Connect version will be used over the DIM version.

Heh, I'm confused now too...think I'll just stick to my manual sorting. Too much content ends up in Lost and Found anyway and then I would never find it. Thanks for your help Richard.
