Recommend a mouse for Daz and 3D work in general.

My mouse is failing (right button dodgy). Can anybody recommend a mouse for Daz and 3D work in general?  Also gaming (preferably OK for that too).  There are too many out there to choose from.  Wireless/wired?  I'm not big on extra buttons either.  I hardly ever program them.  The only stipulation I have is it not be Razer.  I don't think I've ever owned anything Razer that didn't fall apart in weeks.

  • I just use a basic Microsoft wired mouse (wireless tend to be heavier because of the batteries). No doubt there are better, but a a basic device it seems OK - and there's less to go wrong, or cause conflicts due to fancy drivers.

I'm looking for something that's quite basic yet very reliable with excellent precision.  You're right about the weight, but sometimes the inertia is useful for precision (though over long periods not so good).

This is the one I have now, works good for gaming and graphics. Lasted a little over a year so far. Worked fine in win10, and now win7.

  • Changing from macOS (there I used the Logitech M220) under Windows 10 now I use the Logitech M590 wireless mouse. I like the handling and it is realy silent and I can navigate very exactly with it.

I have a 3D Space-mouse-enterprise and 3D Cad-mouse, but I would honestly get just another $20.00 wireless mouse, found everywhere. Since, like me, you don't like all that "novelty stuff". Just avoid anything with side-buttons, as then almost always tend to get in the way as you lift and reposition your mouse. (Often done in 3D, especially with Daz, due to the limited interface input for moving, zooming, rotating etc... You DO want a light mouse, but one with just a simple AA battery in it will give you enough force-feedback resistance.)

If you want the 3D Space-mouse or 3D Cad-mouse... It does have some neat features and awesome 3D manipulations that Daz can play nice with. (I have disabled the side buttons on the 3D cad-mouse.) https://www.3dconnexion.com/

Just a little tip... Never install the drivers for a mouse, unless they are actually needed. Most just add a layer of input-delay as they are constantly "watching", to do some other novelty action that windows default drivers will also do, using the normal mouse settings, faster. (Just not complex key-stroke macros or game-specific mouse settings.)

Well, I'm a trackball weirdo. I'm a huge fan of the MX Ergo: https://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/mx-ergo-wireless-trackball-mouse?crid=7 .

Most important criteria for mice, keyboards and monitor - they will not adversley affect your health. Much more important than a faster GPU or CPU

So I'd try and find some you like you can test in real world situations.

I like this one. Not expensive, but ergonomic and fairly simple. There is also a cordless version for a few extra dollars.

I am such a weirdo as well, but I don't know how I'd feel about using my thumb on the trackball.

Works fine for me.  Been using Logitech M570 for years on all my PCs and will never go back to using mice again, they feel increcibly clumsy to use now if I get my hands on one.  I don't use the included drivers, they work perfectly with windows default drivers.

I’ve been using a Marble for so long that I don’t like the idea of operating the ball with my thumb rather than a combination of fingers.

Well I've never tried it any other way than with the thumb so I can't tell what the difference may be, I just know that with the M570 you can work both fast and precise.  Just took me a couple of weeks to get skilled in using it.

  • If you spend alot of time doing computer artwork I would recommend a verticle mouse like (J-Tech Digital Scroll Endurance Wired Mouse Ergonomic Vertical USB Mouse) If you want more control of your camera inside of daz studio I would suggest 3d connexion space mouse, note this works with your mouse and looks like a hockey puck. If most of your time is spent on post work and graphics I would recommend a graphic tablet, if you have deeper pockets I use a wacom cintiq myself and it is a very good investment. I find the cintiq is a more natural approch to drawing on screen than just plain graphic tablet. The verticle mouse is good for people who have wrist problems or just want to prevent hand pain from using a regular mouse. The very best thing is to set an alarm on your smart phone that makes you get up and gives your eyes, hands and backside a break from being in front of computer too long.

Bought an M570 because I can't avoid using a mouse at work, and Marbles apparently can't be found in stores any more. I hate it. Operating the trackball with my thumb was every bit as uncomfortable and taxing as I thought it would be. I went to order a Marble off Amazon, and instead decided to try one of these, and I'm really digging it so far.
