Iray warnings Log file assistance

HI friends, my comp once rendered super fast, but now super slow, so I've been keeping a watch on log file, but none of it makes any sense to me.  During test render I had GPU selected only.  Not going to copy/paste huge log file, just warnings.  What does Cuda device 0 mean ?  Can anyone help make sense of this.  Thanks.

  • CUDA devices are GPUs - being a computer it starts counting from 0, so CUDA Device 0 is just your 1080. When a render finishes there should be entries in the log showing how much time each dvice took and how manay iterations it processed.

    Hi Richard thanks for info. So, no one have any idea what all the warnings mean ?  I don't know, appears Iray rendered super fast with V4, slower with G3 and now super slow with G8.  Mega updo hair causing issues ?  Hmm, I may try no hair, different PA hair, same model, see what happens.  Log render times.  I should go back to V4, Rofl !! I believe alot of models, cause render problems.  When I first began a few years ago, Suite 2101 kept crashing my system, I upgrade from 4 core to 8 core, gpu 500 to 700, worked fine.  Then Philosopher - Planet earth didn't want to render, upgrade to 1080, renders now, but very slow. 

    PA's creating models on super powerful computers, we purchase models = super long render times.  Perfect example from the past is Mec4D, she has a youtube vid.  She used 4 Titan video cards, lighting speeds.  I realized the truth is, unless I build a $10K system, DS Iray will always be slow, reason I disappear for months.  Don't want to wait around for 10 hour render times, Lol !  So now I create for speed, not creativity.

    Most of those kind of warnings are harmless. Why they happen, don't know. Things you want to watch out for are timeouts on accessing the GPU (seen that), or out of GPU memory dropping to CPU (not sure what that looks like). Download and run GPU-Z if you're on Windoze. It gives you confirmation that your GPU is actually cranking away the whole time. It's possible that HD morphs, and subdivision level are sneaking in there and stealing cycles. Some newer Iray models have extremely large texture sets, as in very high res files. I found on one set, reducing all the image texture files by 50% improved render times and kept the scene inside my 1060-6GB limit. There's also this resource saver from Mattymanx.

    Hello friend, thanks for response.  I'll check out GPU-Z/Resource saver.  I'll have to agree with you pertaining to texture files, I've noticed that some G8 characters zip along while others slow speed.  Which goes back to issues I had in the past with specific models, had to do something with excessive polygon count.
