Installing Morphs, Skins, Tongue Controls Etc - SOLVED

edited November 2019 in Daz Studio Discussion

Hey all,

Long time (that other program) user...not done anything for a few years and decided to get back into it and switch to Daz (as many others appear to have done).

My question is, as per the title, do all these [Morphs, Skins, Tongue Controls Etc.] need installing to the figures folder?  I ask this as have changed my content folders to an external drive and set up my own structure but was wondering if I can install all these kind of things to a separate folder of their own, or if they need to be put into the same folder as whatever figure I'm working with?

Subseqently, things like Wear Them All, any clothing converters, preset, hair converters etc, are these better just being installed straight into Daz itself? (nothing I use will be ever be installed into Daz, all will be in external runtime/content folders and linked to accordingly).

May seek like a noob question, but I am a noob when it comes to Daz and the theings it can now do :)  Many thanks for any help.

  • As with Poser, there are "back end" files that need to be in the right place for DS to find them. They don't all have to be in the same content directory, but they must be in a content directory and in the correct folders relative to that content directory - like having the OBJ in Runtime/Geometries/some folder.

  • Thanks for the reply...

Yeah I get that perfectly, so (without testing diff things), I could place all that kind of thing in a folder...keeping the file structure within the zips and point Daz to that folder and they should work without them being in the same folder as the figure correct?

Scripted stuff I can understand probably need to be installed direct into daz (that's fine for stuff like that, have no problem with that).

  • Don't foget that a lot of zips have a Content or My Library or My Daz 3d Libnrary folder - you don't want that, unless your content directory has the same name and you are emrging the two folder, you want the stuff rom inside.

Most scripts and shadrs don't need to go to the application folder, some do and of course plug-ins do. Using Install manager will ensure they are in the right place.

  • Yeah already figured that one out.  All sorted now cheers and all in a separate folder.  Thanks :)
