Why do so many products still need to be installed after DIM install?

I install my DAZ produxts using DIM. When I go to their smart content tab, they indicate they must be installed. see image

Even though the symbol to install or download is there, they still work without installing, but I I hit install, they do install and that ring with the down arrow goes away.
Any idea what is going on with that?

Isn't that for Connect? Connect doesn't talk to DIM, and DIM doesn't tell Connect. You've installed it twice in different locations, and Connect takes precedence.
That's fine, it's just telling you that the product is isntalled (coloured thumbnail) but not with Connect (down-arrow icon). You are under no obligation to install with Connect, though you won't get update alerts in DS for things installed via DIM.
According to DAZ you should not install any products with both DIM and Connect as it may cause problems (experienced this myself). It's either DIM or Connect.
I don't and won't use Connect, so I can't confirm, but I believe you. There just seems to be a lot of confusion and doubt on the subject of installation methods, and the effects of one on the other. Of course, people don't complain when everything works, and the vocal forum members are a small sample of users.
Do your install without DAZ running. I find that if the main program is running, I sometimes get these install fails. Without it, I have not had an issue.
connect vs. DIM .. i dont know about that..will need to learn. I just use DIM all the time ...
I have found that doing a content DB maintenance followed by "Process Metadata Queue" usually fixes that problem.
